2019-2020 USC Transfer

Thank you! I emailed common app and they said that I have to contact the admissions department for each individual school.

good luk everyone

Is it our admissions counselor making the decision for our application? Or do they have some input and pass it on to higher tier admissions people? Lol… So nerve-wracking to think that we’re speaking directly to the ones who decide if we get into USC or not!

PSA!! Was reading through last year’s thread and several people signed up for USPS Informed Delivery. I just signed up and it’s free! They send you an email every day w/ your mail (actual photocopied photos) and if you have any packages coming.

Based on previous experience, those who received a ‘package’ aka possible acceptance, the USPS Informed Delivery said package from USC! And I’m assuming denied would have a picture of a small envelope from usc :frowning:

Anyone has an idea on when they start mailing stuff? I heard May 30th, but not sure. Any confirmations?

@taki123 Reposting as just realized we r on transfer thread.

@CADREAMIN Wait what? Lol

Sorry I was out and about and couldn’t repost at that time…

@taki123 For the large group of acceptances that go out for regular decision - USC does not enable tracking. Even if you sign up for an account it does not show all packages that come in and most importantly, the USC packages will not show up. Proven again in January, no one saw the package coming.

For transfers, when they send a batch, they will not show up either. There is a chance those sent as one offs may show up, but it’s just not that likely. I know a Thornton performance major saw his because it was sent from Thornton rather than through the admissions batch. So one person posts they saw it, and thousands of others think they will, but they don’t.

I can tell you, I can think of no more of a depressing way to find out you get in or don’t get into USC than following USPS like a lunatic. So many false positives, kids asking what about this zip code it is sent from - and the package they have coming seems to always be something from Amazon. You aren’t gonna believe it till you see it anyway, so just wait for it. While I get the angst, particularly for transfers as it goes into May, June and sometimes even July, I would not get addicted to checking USPS. It’s not reliable and not the intended way to get great news. If they wanted it this way, they would just update the dang portal. Getting/finding the package is incredible, once in a lifetime moment. Don’t let USPS screw that up for you. imo (who had 4 of these come to our house).

@CADREAMIN Oh wow, you make very good points. Thank you for the insight!!

Wish you luck and a short wait! Hope you are one of the early ones to get in come April (rather than May…June…ugh.) You will see trends posted on here, it will get very busy come end of March with everyone asking when the next wave comes…but you do see them go out in groups sort of until the end when they seem to sputter out here and there.

Does anyone know someone who has received a merit transfer scholarship? Do you know if notification comes with your acceptance letter or at a different time?

does anyone have any insight into a previous question asked on the thread about whether or not our admissions counselor is responsible for looking over applications? i’d be curious to know as well. (i know usc claims not to track demonstrated interest so it’s not a pressing concern)

@turntechgm it may be best to just read through the following very helpful insider’s guide to USC admissions…

Hi guys,

I’d really appreciate if you guys could chance me!!

I’m currently a first year at a UC and I applied as a sophomore transfer to Dornsife Psychology. I have a 3.71 overall right now (2 quarters) and I’ve completed 26 units (translates to about 17.3 semester units). I have 21 units in progress for winter quarter. Since I had less than 30 units upon my application, they are going to take my SAT/ACT + high school stats into consideration. I had a 1470 SAT, 33/35 ACT (depending on if they superscore) and a 94 in high school. My high school used the 100 scale but that does translate to a 4.0.

For the recommended pre-reqs, I’ve completed 4/8 of them:
Humanistic Inquiry
Physical Sciences
Quantitative Reasoning
Traditions and Historical Foundations

I’ve had all A’s and A+'s in my classes except Chem + Chem lab. I really slacked last quarter and did really bad (didn’t fail) but I’m planning on bringing it up. I’m expecting mostly A’s in my classes for this quarter but I’m expecting to do worse in my Chem 1B and lab series- probably like B+. Even then, I’m expecting to bring my GPA up to a 3.8

I know that the average GPA for USC transfer applicants is around a 3.7 but I’m still not super confident about my chances…

I think my essays are decent- they are definitely more substantial and meaningful than the ones that I wrote the first time I applied to USC for college.

I also had a recommendation from one professor I took 2 classes with.

Thank guys I really appreciate it .

BTW guys this is the transfer profile USC uploaded for 2018: https://admission.usc.edu/wp-content/uploads/TransferringToUSC_2018.pdf

On page 4 it says average GPA is 3.7, with a 24% admit rate. (It differs by major though)

@90smix Ayy they left the type above the stats as “2017”

When exactly does USC start rolling admissions?
Early April?
And what type of people are likely to get the fastest acceptance? Like…would people with the highest gpas get theirs the fastest? Just curious

I think TTP students get notified earlier than regular transfers. And from what I’ve heard, some transfer applicants have heard back around March 29th, so early April should be the right ballpark for decisions.

@Snekfest Yeah, because it’s fall 2017-2018 so that was last year’s stats. This year it would be fall 2018-2019

Do any viterbi applicants get notified in April if they’re not on TTP. I am about to finish my second quarter of CalPoly engineering with a 4.0
