2019-2020 USC Transfer

For your information, admission office starts reviewing most transfer applications starting in April. You will be notified anytime in April, or May/June/July. In very rare cases, USC accepts some people at the end of March. Also for Marshall applicants it’s okay to not finish the two English writing requirement and still get accepted, but you have to finish the Business Calculus requirement. I did not complete the two English writing requirements and I have a 3.7+ GPA ( not offered at my 4 year institution). Hopefully I will get in!

The USC website posted that first year applicant acceptances will be mailed out on May 21 (which was what was expected prior to the scandal) and transfer applicants’ admission decisions or sgr’s will be mailed by May 31

Admission Decision Timeline
First-Year Applicants:

Transfer Applicants:
You will be mailed an admission decision or a request for spring-term grades by May 31.

Wondering if the high stats TTP transfer candidates will be earlier with the 1st years? Fingers crossed!

Are admission/rejection letters sent to our current (school) address or permanent (home) address?

TTP usually hear earlier, sometimes even with regular admissions or very close to it. HOWEVER, there was a regular poster on here last year that was a 4.0 TTP, no spring grade request, but didn’t hear till much later…maybe later April or even early May. I just remember because we assumed he would hear earlier and it ended up being brutal and seemingly uncalled for it to be that late for a TTP, particularly with shoe-in stats.

A Viterbi wave seems to rock out midish to later April around the 15-20th. Just speculation for this year, but based on past behavior.

Regarding everyone wondering about the encounter with USC currently; Everyone I have spoken with has told me everything going on right now with USC will not affect the decision times for transfers and/or will affect admission decisions in general. Don’t quote me on that, I’m not 100% sure, but many people have said it is a different department handling all of that, not admissions. If anyone knows anything different please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. Hope this helps clear things up for some.

Finally done with all my applications after submitting application for Emory yesterday!

I applied to USC, Emory, UCB HAAS, UCLA, UCSD, and UCI. USC is probably my top choice since it is in LA because I currently study at a top 50,4-year institution in LA so I am so used to the LA vibe.

Looking forward to hearing back from all the schools. Good luck!

Also to Marshall applicants, it is okay not to complete the writing classes. I have friends from my univeristy who gets in without any writing classes. USC emphasizes on your essay a lot to see if you are a good fit. And if you are a good fit, they will still accept you even if you are missing a pre-req or two (even if you miss Business Calculus, but missing one or two writing classes is better than missing Business Calculus because Calculus is the core for business majors).

My school does not offer the writing classes that can be transferred to USC. I personally did not complete the two USC writing classes. I took a lot of GEs so that should help.

@uscstressed -The admission decisions are sent to the permanente (home) address that is on file with the application. My daughter is abroad and we will FaceTime her for the envelope opening.

Hi guys, I am new to this site and I plan on applying to USC next year as a transfer. Good luck to all of you!

@fluidflea - A little tedious, but you can learn a lot by reading through old transfer threads. There is good info within them. Focus on the right classes and your GPA. And read the USC Transfer Guide/Brochure - soooo much good stuff in there. The USC website is amazing. It is really all in there. Do what IT says! Good luck!

Thank you. I will definitely read the old threads. I have looked at the Transfer guide and plan to attend one of the information sessions. I will have 30 units done by the end of this semester but I did not feel confident applying this semester. I have not taken a math course yet and I want to apply for Business Administration. I am not involved in any extra curriculars either so I didn’t think that I would get in. Did you transfer to USC?

No, I’m a parent that has had several accepted to USC and a student (or two) attending USC consistently for almost a decade with more years to go. Been there, done that, (many times) as they say.

@sagaciousforever I’m a Marshall applicant and what you said is definitely encouraging but I’m curious where you heard that from - especially missing the calculus pre-req. I emailed my admissions counselor because for some reason my 4 year college didn’t offer calculus and she said that I’d only considered for undecided.

@asn009 missing calculus is probably more of a big deal but it doesn’t mean you cannot be accepted. I know a person who gets into Marshall without calculus but that’s very rare (even in the case that you are very good, but it is possible).

They want students to finish their Math before attending. But they are more lenient with the writing classes—I did not hear this from anyone, but two of my friends did not complete USC’s writing classes and got accepted as a transfer last year. They have really strong GPA and essays tho.

So do not worry too much about pre-req, and you will be fine as long as you get most of the pre-reqs done. But if you finish all of them it will be to your advantage. It does not mean that they will automatically reject you if you do not finish one or two pre-req.

Im also a Marshall applicant and Dornsife for my second choice. I am stressed because my gpa is not that high (Will have around a 3.1 by the end of spring semester) although I have completed the writing class required, the pre-req for calc and I will have the calculus class needed done by the end of the semester. My essays are definitely my strongest area in my application I believe.

Good luck to everyone!

@CADREAMIN Hi I’m a parent, my daughter is applying to transfer to USC as a sophomore she has 4.0 college gpa and above 4.0 high school gpa she has completed 21 units all rigorous courses related to her major (including calculus, bio and chem ) and 16 units for spring semester and she is in honors program. She had lots of extra curriculum activity during high school including internships and currently volunteering at free clinic and homeless shelter. Will you please tell me what are her chances to get in ? Forgot to mention she is currently in the community college in Southern California and she did apply last year as a freshman and was rejected .

@CADREAMIN Can I still update my grades on the common app during March and early April? I took an 8 week humanities class and my A will be posted on march 19th. My Calculus 2 class will end on April 8 and the grade will be posted on April 9. I’m expected to receive an A on this too.

If I can post these grades on the common app and USC checks this out before/during the review of my application. Would this look great and have a positive impact in my application overall?

Yes it would be great and favorable to get those grades in. I don’t think you can do it on the common app, I think you email your advisor. I didn’t think you could access the app at this point and updates couldn’t be made on the app itself. If wrong can someone else confirm? But yes any completed grades, particularly great ones should be provided to them one way or another.
