2019-2020 USC Transfer

@CADREAMIN Good news, I just spoke with my Calculus 2 teacher on the phone and she agreed to have a signed statement that I would have completed Calculus 2 with the grade I earn. What’s great is that she also agreed that I could complete the final earlier so she could compute my grade and have the letter drafted the same day. I’ll then send this letter to USC and the other college’s I’ll apply to directly then. I’ll have my humanities teacher send a letter verifiying my grade to USC and the other colleges as well If I can’t update on common app.

Is this a good idea?

Also I forgot to mention that my final will be done, grade calculation and letter draft will be done, and letter will be sent all on March 31st because of my teacher’s permission

Yes @GoodAfternoonSir, that sounds like a good plan, shows commitment to the cause. If I had grades that mattered and were finalized I wouldn’t wait for an SGR, I would get the information in to your advisor and cc USC admissions so it is definitely added to your file. You may have to call them and ask if there is an email besides advisor to send grade updates to. Be proactive. and if you get an SGR, just send it in again at that time.

Just so I don’t lead anyone down a wrong path, can someone confirm common app is closed for any kind of changes or uploads? It’s been awhile deadlines vary between reg and transfer, but I thought when it closed, it closed. I’m 99% sure, but I went out for a great dinner and am a bit in a food coma.

@CADREAMIN sorry to bother you again, but since you are so knowledgeable and I value your opinion ,will you respond to my question as well?

@CADREAMIN I just logged back into Common App and as of now I cannot update it with any changes whatsoever. There is a button to press if we want the option to update it but when I’m redirected then the modules which allow me to change information have been completely locked.

@CADREAMIN Actually I did try to contact my USC Counselor about this situation but she hasn’t responded for two months regarding a different situation and hasn’t responded to this question for about a week. I had this idea for quite a while but didn’t communicate my message to you guys until now as I wasn’t completely sure at this point if I should go ahead with this action or not without some helpful feedback from my friends, family, and you fine people.

@CADREAMIN Regardless I will still do all three options you advised me to do so I can make sure that I have done everything on my part to get this information to them with haste.

Yes, because even if she didn’t respond, you have done it and she may have just put them in. I would call admissions - they are there to help you guys - and tell them you have info to be added to your file (completed grades) but haven’t heard back from your advisor and just want to know if there is anyone/where else to send them to in order to ensure they are part of your file.

One big gripe I see is inconsistency of advisor responses. They are traveling and doing 3 jobs, but I wish they would just put “a call bank” on on email inquiries rather than relying on the individual advisors. But that should be what admissions is for when you don’t hear back - but students are so scared to call them. Don’t be scared, they are helpful people - if you are nice, they are nice back - just like anywhere (for the most part).

@CADREAMIN Hey I have some bad experiences with my advisor already who has given me various answers about a topic, going to be broad to save my ID, so I am worried about bothering him/her even more than I already have. If for my spring semester I changed classes should I email my counselor or upload a doc in my portal to say this? I dropped a physics class for Chem 2 because I got off a waitlist. These classes aren’t for my major I am just taking them for units/interest. But I don’t want them to think I’m not being transparent about my course schedule?

@transferszn I really don’t think that is critical at all to your app (one science class to another) particularly when they are not major related. The questions from other posters were related to recently completing a class (likely on quarters system) with an A which is good news for them to have. You can always drop them an email with the info or upload (if you feel awkward emailing again) but I wouldn’t expect a response. But they would have current info which is good.

Point is, from what you are saying this has no impact to your app - it isn’t something they are going to accept/deny/rescind because of - so providing info isn’t going to hurt or help, but providing it does show you are on top of things and still interested.

@GoodAfternoonSir and @CADREAMIN For my grades I did something similar to Cornell’s Mid-term report and had all profs sign my current grades for each class and will be uploading it to the supplements portal. An idea I thought worth sharing  @CADREAMIN cannot thank you enough for all your helpfulness from this thread and last years

@Snekfest Awe shucks. Thank you for kind words.

@CADREAMIN Yes, you are correct. CommonApp has been closed for us to update anything since the deadline. I have been emailing my counselor as well as submitting mid-year grade confirmations through the portal for any updates.

Hey guys I have a question for sending your transcript. Can we (the school registrar) send the transcript to USC directly instead of sending them to Common App Processing Center? I did not follow the transcript sending directions on Common App.

I’ve sent USC and Emory directly instead of sending them to Common App Processing Center first. This bothers me because I checked USC portal today and they received my college transcript, however, Emory’s portal shows that they have not received it yet.

I sent my transcripts to USC and Emory in January so they arrived for sure.

This might be a stupid question, but does anyone know where we can find our admissions counselor’s email/contact info? I don’t see it anywhere on the “find your admissions counselor/ meet the admissions counselors” page. I’m trying to get in touch with Hillary Higgins.

Hi, my daughter is applying as a sophomore and since she has only completed one semester,I know they rely on her high school gpa , does anybody know if they look at her four years of high school or just her sophomore and junior years?

@mapofthesoul https://admission.usc.edu/find-your-counselor/
Type in your school and her name should pop up.
For me, the page was glitchy and wouldn’t scroll down to show the contact info so I had to do that select thing when you click on the text and highlight down to copy/paste. I went as far as I could and CTRL-C and then I went on a google doc and just pasted & saw the contact info

@Coopy1 4 years of high school. Her first semester of college work will matter more if she showed improvement or consistent academic excellence.

Thank you so much , good to know her college gpa is 4.0 and her overall high school gpa is above 4.0, I was just curious and I think it helps her if they see she did well all throughout high school. Thank you again

i’m trying to look for my counselor but my school does not show up on the page (ucsd). what should i do?
