hmmmm good question. Dropping like one B or significant? Is course load or class difficult? You guys have such high expectations of yourself that sometimes it’s not a big deal. But it won’t hurt to not be in a rush, I know plenty of quarter kids that got in only after posting that first quarter grades and not having to send in anything else (to be admitted anyway). You could see if you find out in the first transfer rush which tends to happen mid-ish April. And yes, a 3.7 is absolutely competitive.
@CADREAMIN It looks like I’ll go from having straight As to getting one B this quarter… I’m just conflicted because my high school grades dropped significantly in high school. Would you recommend sending in my winter grades or wait?
One B in a sea of A’s is not going to hurt you. Those grades are also good enough to validate accepting you versus rejecting you. So it depends on how you (and they) look at it. But you need to be comfortable with how you play it. So go with your gut. But the way I see it, all A’s and one B just shows you can handle the work, it really is a positive. And it’s not like you can hide it forever (nor should you). So you can send it in immediately, or a little bit after you get it to see if you are one of the early transfer admits, your call. I would be telling mine to send it in because it shows them you are still very interested in attending. If you are borderline for any reason, you could still get an SGR for next quarter (and find out very late, ugh).
@CADREAMIN thanks so much for your help!
Honestly, I just want to give a huge thank you to @CADREAMIN for the helpful posts in this whole thread. You have no idea how much stress you have relieved for me over these past two months and how many questions you have answered through others. I can assume so many other people here feel the same. I hope everyone isn’t worrying too much about the decision process. Everyone here seems like a great candidate so I hope you all receive good news soon.
@transferusc88 thanks did the kind words. It is so reassuring how supportive people are of each other on here - a good sign for our future! Best of luck on great news soon!
@wanjunhing, like @CADREAMIN says, it is your call and a difficult call. Last year, S’s friend, not a TTP, was a freshman at a UC had straight A’s in his first freshman quarter in the Fall. He also got straight A’s in the Winter quarter (maybe an A-) and immediately sent his transcripts after Winter grades were posted. He was accepted shortly after that and did not have to wait for a SGR.
@CADREAMIN Purely out of curiosity, are you currently a USC student ? You had some many posts.
Four kids accepted to USC, have had one or two there consistently for 9 years. Spend quite a bit of time there as well, pretty involved with the school, and I learn a lot from people on here! I do this to support the Trojan family best I can.
@CADREAMIN I am a parent as well and we really appreciate your help and support
how do you think grad schools and companies will look at USC degrees after this whole scandal? I know that only a couple of students out of thousands were scamming there way into the college. But I feel like the whole reputation of the college and its degrees that they give out will be tarnished. As a low-income student, if the FA I get from USC is better than the school I am at now I will transfer but still will really really consider my options.
Educated people that hire you understand the statistical insignificance of it all. A couple bad parents and coaches (and the creep Singer) does not represent the 40,000+ strong students every year, plus the around 20,000 staff of USC or the millions that attend any college that got in the right way. Are you/they gonna feel that way about Stanford and Yale too? The press loves and focused on the Hollywood part of this story. Some at other schools spent $1M to $6M to get their kid in to the other schools. Can you name other parents/students involved from the other schools? Likely not.
@candylover132 From what I heard, your college doesn’t really matter to grad school and companies unless you’re going to a top university such as the Ivy Leagues. As long as you have a good, strong gpa and internships/work experience then you will be a very competitive applicant for any job regardless of the school you graduated from.
Does anyone know how USC feels about 8 week courses? Also do 8 week classes appear different on transcripts than normal classes? I would be able to take a lot more classes in 8 weeks.
I don’t recall reading this or perhaps it just slipped my mind, do transfer acceptances receive the “white box?”
Absolutely.
So when is the soonest we start hearing back?
@CADREAMIN thank you.
@Collegegirlie7 End of March or end of April is the earliest that you will hear back.
@CADREAMIN We receive a whole box? I thought we got a medium size package lol
