When do SGRs usually start getting sent out?
@Halofax in the past, it’s been anywhere from now until…
Has anyone heard of an applicant switching majors once admitted to USC? I applied for DLAS English, even though my preferred major is the Art/Design B.A., because at the time I wasn’t able to get the two extra required recommendation letters from art instructors (only had one instructor at that point). I didn’t get to submit a portfolio at all, because of that requirement. However, it’s fairly likely I’ll be admitted to English given my stats and the LORs I did send in, but even so, I’d only attend if I could switch. Any thoughts?
Anyone who is experienced knowing about when did USC in the past started sending out their decision, which should be a package or a letter?
ttp people will get their decisions first I think
Crazy how getting into other schools make me realize more and more how badly I want to go to USC.
@Native523 Call the admissions department at USC and email your admissions counselor with this information at hand. This is what I did and they didn’t require me to send my transcripts after telling my final grade, they just took my word for it. They’re going to ask for final transcripts after spring grades are released anyway, so they’re probably just meh about it. No worries just let the department and your admissions counselor know and you should be fine.
I just had a not so dandy call with admissions because they still haven’t recieced one of my transcripts. She said pretty confidently that transfer decisions will not be coming out till after May 1. Along with prolonging the wait, this puts me in an extremely stressful place because most of my other colleges need a decision from me by May 1rst. They have not looked over any normal transfer applications yet and will not look over an application until all official requested transcripts come in.
I did call my particular councilor and after explaining my situation she said my unofficial transcript would suffice in terms of reviewing my application as a whole. But to be clear USC HAS NOT LOOKED OVER ANY TRANSFER APPLICATIONS YET. They may have looked over TTP, but certified not the normal transfer applicants.
I received my acceptance via portal last year on April 28th and the package came in on May 1st. (No TTP) I was a sophomore transfer and they didn’t request my spring grades
@uscgal27 thank you for coming back to post. I find it sooooo reassuring when people who have gone through this process lend their knowledge and experience. This year’s admit process, as a whole, has been so different from those in the past. I feel that we are all just clinging to every tiny piece of information that is conveyed to us.
@wishmeluck2 I think USC definitely understands that some students have to balance a work schedule and can’t always take a full course load. 12 units was considered full-time at my CC, but I suppose around 15 units is more standard/average. It sounds like you did way better than me my first two years. I think my schedule went something like: 3 units, 6 units, 6 units, 6 units. A staggering 21 units in 4 semesters of CC. Your history sounds quite respectable given that you had to juggle work. It’s hard. Grad school is kicking my butt right now as I’m not able to dedicate all my time to my studies. I applaud those that work while going to school
@GoodAfternoonSir Wow, 29 units? I don’t think the strength of your application will necessarily take a hit due to one semester of not being full-time, but I could potentially see them doing a spring grade request to see how you handle such a packed semester and even more so if you are taking any important classes.
@bksyazd That wouldn’t surprise me. I actually think that’s the norm as they have to get through all of the freshman applicants first. The second year/time I applied as a transfer, I honestly believe they didn’t get to my application until early May. My admissions counselor stated that a copy of my GED was missing, but I never saw a request for it in my portal. It really came off like he had not even glanced at my application until he emailed me and requested the document. It can take awhile for some folks, unfortunately. Oh, and I was one of the rare students not to hear anything by June 1st. Nothing at all. No SGR or nada. I didn’t hear until June 6th.
@zettasyntax Aww, the reason why I took the 30 units and performed successfully with 9 A’s and 1 B in Fall 2018 was so that I can wrap up all of my GE’s in that semester and let them know that I can handle the workload, allowing me to comfortably take 29 units this semester without having them send an SGR. I did this while managing my clothing business and help my aunt’s daycare center too, so hopefully, they might not send an SGR? Idk.
Well, for Spring 2019 I have classes related to the Humanities, Political Science, Philosophy, Anthropology, History, Sociology, Communications, and taking Calculus 2 which isn’t required for the business major. So I don’t know exactly how important these classes are to the Admissions Department, I just don’t want an SGR.
I also told them that I’m earning 7 Associate Degrees this semester so I hope that’s enough for them to make a confident decision.
Lemme know what you think about this
@GoodAfternoonSir If you’ve already taken care of your math requirement, I suppose that would significantly decrease your odds of getting an SGR I just think it comes off as being a lot of units. It sure made me raise an eyebrow, haha. I could see USC being slightly hesitant and wanting to see if you’re able to match your fall semester performance before making a final decision. Maybe they won’t need to though.
Does relationship with a counselor affect decisions (As a TTP)? I emailed my regional counselor and my TTP counselor a question about my transcript and whether they received it and they replied telling me to check my portal (I hadn’t applied by then so I had no portal) and they seemed kinda frustrated (even though it was my first time asking). Would this factor into the decision? I met the requirements, took my Freshman Writing requirement, and am taking a Math 118 equivalent (got it with AP credit but counselor told me to take it anyway).
@jj1999 Nah that seems very petty for that to affect your decision just because you were interested in updating your grades and they got a little impatient.
For Everyone’s Information for Updating Grades: Go to your portal, scroll down to “Upload Materials” click on the tab and click on “Mid-Year Transcript”, upload your updated transcript and they will receive the information easily.
@GoodAfternoonSir I was just asking if my transcripts got sent and wasn’t sure cause I didn’t have my portal info then (it was before i applied)
@jj1999 I hope you got your answer from them, if not just resend your transcripts through the portal, unofficial is fine. Just make sure they get this information as soon as possible. They’re checking out the uploaded materials fast so no worries.
@GoodAfternoonSir I handled this back in January so it’s all good. I sent all the stuff on the checklist to them.
@uscgal27, thank you for the insight. What type of school did you transfer from? In-state or OOS?
