2019-2020 USC Transfer

The fall semester starts Monday :(( On the bright side, I will have all of my major pre-reqs completed by the end of the this semester. Ready to get this process done with already lol.

Hello All! This is my first transfer thread and I’m excited to be here.

I’m from Los Angeles Valley College applying as a Marshall Business Major. I have a 4.0 gpa and will have all major prep classes completed this fall. I also have most of the GE’S completed and will finish up the last one this fall.

Good luck to everyone!

Silly question here, anyone know how we are supposed to turn in our college transcripts? Should I have the school mail it to USC directly? Or upload it on common app?

Hi I’m gonna be starting freshman year at my local CC in a couple of days and was wondering how difficult it was for you to get a 4.0 because that is impressive! Also, if you have time can you maybe give me some of your tips on how to get such a good gpa? My dream is to get into usc as well! Ty

@ZCLAVC sending it via snail mail works just fine. Here’s the address.

@ZCLAVC There’s a section on your applicant portal once you send your application. You can also send transcripts by mail to the admission office; ultimately I would wait until you submit your application.

@GotYa55 I transferred from a 4 year but the same things apply tbh. Put your priorities on top and always do EXTRA practice before exams never less. Side note, do your homework to the best of your ability and go to OFFICE HOURS.

Hey GotYa55. Thank you for your kind words about my GPA. I wish I could answer that question in a clear precise way but here goes. Basically, I worked/work extremely hard! I treat my classes like an episode of Game of Thrones to where I had to go home every night and read more and learn more! I re-read each chapter several times over per week! I would make study guides, and I also find its helpful to relate the information to a real-life concept that you can understand. I spend 6-8 hours a day outside of class studying and going over the same material day after day until it was burnt and imprinted on my memory, so come test time I didn’t have to think about the question I already knew the answer while reading it!

The best advice I can give you is don’t be lazy! Don’t look for excuses not to study, it will hurt you in the end. Remember this isn’t high school anymore. No one will hold your hand like they did in high school. Don’t take no for an answer and study for 6 - 8 hours a day and earn your A’s!

Also, the professors are of great help and are usually available in their offices!

Last piece of advice is pick your schedule wisely! Mix up your schedule with GE’S and major prep classes. Mix up classes that you know won’t overload yourself. Planning is a very important part to succeeding in school! Make sure you have a full-time schedule as well. Look up reviews on your professor on rate my professor.

Hope all this helps!

To Milan and Andy:

Thank you both for answering my question on the transcripts, I will definitely wait until I submit the app to do the transcripts. I feel like it would be easier to send them directly to USC huh?

Hey everyone,
I’m a CC student, second year, looking to get into marshall. I currently have a 3.6 but if all goes well I will have a 3.7-3.8 by the end of this spring. I work at a tax firm but can’t participate in any clubs due to lack of time. Will these affect my chances since I have to do 17 units per semester, along with my job in order to transfer by 2 years?

Does anyone know what sort of students USC/Marshall looks for? Aside from good grades, what are attributes or activities that I can highlight to help me get into USC/Marshall.

yeah same ^

@cvargas7611 Just in general, it would help to have most of the pre requisites for marshall completed. While there are no activities that will guarantee admission, it would definitely help to join business related clubs and try to hold a leadership position. It would also help to find an internship if that’s an option for you.

I emailed my admissions counselor a while ago with a pretty broad question and they never replied back. I’ve done way more research now and have like 5 or 6 specific questions regarding some issues I’ve noticed because of some of the rules my current school has in taking certain classes.

I was thinking of calling them and asking them directly. Is this a bad idea? I’m just worried about asking too many questions/taking up too much of their time. I don’t want to be an annoyance lol.

hey guys, so I just started CC at Fullerton College, I just graduated from high school last year. I want to apply to dornsife as a heath and the human sciences major. I am currently taking french 103, stats, a history of rock and roll class, english 103, and an intro to chem class. Next semester I plan on taking the rest of the GE requirements, including bio and chem (which are recommended to be taken for a health and the human sciences major). do these classes look ok to you guys, should i be doing other things such as meeting up with my counselor, etc. please let me know!!

@Halofax You should just ask all of your questions in one phone call to admission or email, try not to space this questions out over time

Ima let you guys all know, USC does not care about ECs. They only care about grades. Heard it straight from the adcom

@TheGoldenBoy Directly from the admissions committee? Did they make a public statement?

Straight from the admission counselors that review our applications. They said they do not care about ECs, internships, or anything else related. They wanna see a strong academic record, and all of the prereqs done. Learned this from a transfer info session I attended and while meeting with a top counselor.
