2019-2020 USC Transfer

The application just opened and I can’t seem to find USC?

Nevermind, looks like they just added USC! Was a little worried for a second lol.

Hey guys when does the common application close?

Common App doesn’t close. The school’s have individual deadlines, but the common app is there through this years application cycle until summer 2019.

@CADREAMIN Does the USC application period close? If not then what’s the best time to submit the application? Also, is it a first send, first look at the application from the officers kind of system?

Does anyone happen to know if USC has anything against admitting students who have earned their associates? Other schools that I’ve looked into have said that transfers with associates degrees shouldn’t apply, but I haven’t seen that from USC. Just wanted to make sure I’m not missing something since I feel like I haven’t seen anyone on these boards talk about getting their associates.

@LNK1999 I do not understand. Why would other colleges disapprove someone pursuing a degree? If this is the case, what schools have been telling you this? Also, did you get this information from the admission officers of the schools you’re talking about?

Anyone applying as an Econ major? And if so, what’s your gpa?

I have a W on my transcript but only because my counselor set me up to take a class I didn’t need to be taking, I was then told later in the semester I did not have to take the class, therefore, I withdrew. Will that affect my chances of admission?

@Prlewis9 Make sure to explain this on the Common App. You should be fine afterward

@Prlewis9 I agree with the advice above. You can make a note of it in the Common App if it worries you. One W shouldn’t make or break your chances. I dropped a class during the spring and took a W, but never mentioned it to USC. I wasn’t rescinded or anything. When you have tons of W’s, then it starts to look like a pattern and is a bit worrying.

It has been a few days since the most recent post; but anyways, hello everybody! I am planning to apply to USC as a Junior Transfer for Fall 2019. I wish you all the very best for the upcoming transfer application season!

College: I am an out-of-state community college student based in New York City. I am currently going to BMCC.

Age: I will be 21 by Fall 2019.

Major: I am currently a Liberal Arts major at BMCC. I am planning to go into the Annenberg School as a Communications Major with a possible Double Major/Minor in Dramatic Arts and/or International Relations. I am aware that I have to write a 250-word letter of intent for Annenberg if I am not mistaken. Can someone please confirm this?

High School GPA: A solid 1.0 GPA. The only excuse I had for this was because I was extremely unmotivated and somewhat depressive at the time. That, and I went to a rather well-known Specialized HS in NYC, so the workload was very stressful. I pretty much gave up after sophomore year. Let’s just say that I didn’t take anything seriously at that time. I actually was supposed to graduate in June 2016, but I lacked the credits to do so. I had 37 credits by the end of my senior year and I needed 44 credits to graduate. I went to a credit recovery program near my high school to recoup the missing credits and I graduated with a High School Diploma bearing my original High School’s name in January 2017, seven months after I was supposed to graduate.

SAT: 1090/1600, I know that the SAT scores probably won’t matter, but I am still retaking the SAT in two weeks on August 25th just to be safe.

College GPA: After a year-long hiatus in my education, I decided to buckle down and take my education seriously. I managed to pull a 3.86 GPA with 28 Credits; I am anticipating to keep up the straight A’s and graduate Summa Cum Laude with a 3.9 GPA by June 2019. I got a B in my Intro to Speech class, an A- in my English 101 class and a single W in my Biology class during my first semester of college, I had to withdraw because I wanted to change my major and Biology was not a requirement for my new major. However, the rest of the classes I took were all A’s. Will I have to explain why I got the W? I earned a perfect 4.0 GPA for the Spring 2018 semester and as such, I got on the Dean’s List. I am hoping that my positive upward trend will be taken into account.

College Extracurriculars:

Current

  • Volunteer Club at my school: I volunteered over 50+ hours during my time at the college so far. I expect to get it to 100 hours by graduation, however, I have a very ambitious (but unlikely) goal of doing 200 total hours by the time I graduate.
  • Chorus: I am a Tenor II for my college's chorus and I (along with my fellow chorus members) performed in front of a 200+ person audience at my college in May. This was just something I did for fun and it was a very enjoyable experience. I will continue singing in the chorus until I graduate.

Future

  • Phi Theta Kappa: I am anticipating to become a member of PTK for the entirety of the 2018-2019 academic year, I am currently awaiting the invitation letter.
  • National Society of Leadership and Success: I am anticipating to become a member of the newly established chapter of the NSLS at my college effective September 2018. Just waiting for the email.
  • I am anticipating to be part of the Yearbook Committee at my college. Going to follow-up with the Program Director in September.
  • I will be a Peer Mentor-in-training at my college for Fall 2018 and a fully fledged Peer Mentor by Spring 2019.
  • I will be a Club Officer (Secretary) of the affiliated Peer Mentoring Club effective September 2019.
  • (POSSIBLE) I am vying to get work-study funds from my college so that I may be placed in a work-study position. I applied for the funds recently and I should know whether I got the work-study funds in a few weeks. If not this semester, then definitely Spring 2019.

Should I participate in another extracurricular that is related to my major, or is everything that I already have/will participate in sufficient? I would greatly appreciate some feedback and suggestions about what I should do over the next two semesters.

Also, as I have never gone through the college application process in high school, I am feeling somewhat nervous about the Common App answers and the essay. I am very well aware that the essay is the most important part of the application (especially for transfers) and I have to do this for several other colleges as well. I would also greatly appreciate any tips on what I should write about for the Common App, the essays and the college application process in general.

Thank you all for reading this long post!

@clementineohara Not entirely sure but they will likely be focusing more on your high school transcripts and SAT/ACT scores if you haven’t completed 30 units by the end of your spring semester. I also go to PCC, and I’m going into my second year.

Grades are the most important thing for transfers. The essay would be second.

Anyone else applying as a high school dropout who has since done extremely well in college? :stuck_out_tongue: I never took the SAT/ACT either. That was my main factor in not applying last year as a sophomore transfer. Luckily, all of that matters much less as a junior transfer!

If anyone has questions about the admission process/ admission requirements feel free to pm me

@dubnation99 PM me. I have some questions and I don’t know how to send a PM

@dubnation99 PM me. I have some questions and I don’t know how to send a PM

The idea on cc is for people to share questions and answers. Of course there are times things are appropriately PM’d, however, neither of you have enough posts to PM yet.

Yeah @Prlewis9 @CADREAMIN is probably right post all of your questions on the forum and I’ll try to answer them the best I can
