2019-2020 USC Transfer

Is there anyway to change your major after applying? Applied to Viterbi and want to switch to Dornslife.

You would need to contact your advisor if doing it before being admitted. If no reply (it happens) you can call admissions and see if they can do it…prepare for hold times, but may be better to call before FA comes out in the next day or so…cause then the phones light up.

@nohrdragon i heard you can try when you’re there, but it’s very hard to get it approved as a transfer. it’s easier for freshman. like @CADREAMIN said, i’d try to do it prior to being at the school by calling or emailing.

How would I go about submitting my winter quarter grades? I just got my second 4.0 back

@DDHH2017 I’d send an official transcript directly to them. or at least upload it onto the portal for the mid-year grade report. I had sent them my official. especially since it’s a 4.0, get that into them ASAP! it’ll help!

@DDHH2017 also notify your USC advisor/counselor by email and attach your unofficial winter quarter grades and that you are sending the official transcripts asap. That way USC will have your unofficial grades on hand and the official ones is forthcoming.

I’ve been really stressed out over sending an SGR, I currently have a B in a really difficult upper-level Philosophy class (we’ve only had one assignment so far). It’s only my second Philosophy class after taking one of the lower-level prereqs.

Should I drop the class while I still can? I have until Monday to decide. I should have A’s in my other classes, maybe an A- too.

I am sorry to ask but what is an SGR? I’m preparing to transfer and it keeps coming up. Thanks!!!

Spring Grade Request. For some they want info on their last semester or spring quarter before they make a decision. Others don’t get asked for it. It does slow down the acceptance time frame obviously if you get one.

@CADREAMIN thank you!

Hello. I was wondering what exactly determines if USC wants to know our spring semester grades. It sounds to me that if you’re applying as a sophomore transfer and you’re a favorable applicant, then they’ll request your grades even if you had a high GPA your first semester, strong essays, and engaging activities. So, very unlikely to just be accepted right off the bat. Am I wrong? Thanks for the reply.

@Halofax I would not drop it if that’s the only B or B+ you may get.

Wait, are people already getting SGR from USC?

No

My friend just got an email from USC asking for winter quarter grades. Idk if that’s a spring grade request tho

@DDHH2017 does your friend have TTP?

For students in quarters system they are just finishing second quarter (called winter quarter) so yes it is actually an SGR. It is a second grade report - ha that also fits the acronym SGR, maybe that’s better way to think of it.

@tmsavage For sophomore applicants, SGRs are usually given because USC likes to see 2 years of full-time college attendance with a decent GPA. They request spring grades because they don’t have enough information to go on and want to make sure you continue to perform well. However, that’s not to say sophomore transfers don’t get straight acceptances. It happens. For juniors, they might get an SGR because they are taking an important course during the spring - such as your minimum transferable math course. That’s why I received an SGR when I first applied way back in 2014.

@zettasyntax I am transferring as a junior and the only major class that I am taking this semester is Organizational Behavior (for Mashall). Other classes this semester are GEs.

Do you think that I will get a SGR? My cumulative GPA is 3.71 (3.62+3.47+3.94 sophomore year first semester). I took Financial Accounting and Business Statistics sophomore year first semester.

Also is SGR just mailing the official college transcript again (after the spring grades are released) ?
