@magicsauce stay positive and believe! I was speaking with Bruce Grier the associate director and he said the transfer rate this year will be around 30%. @lolallama23 they send the packet first for the experience and excitment. They also dont have enough space in the fall to enroll everyone. They also evaluate everyone for a spot in their first AND second choice major, but also see if you fit the “undecided” route as well, which would admit you to the school.
@Caliweedandusc did he say anything about TTP
Wait a second, are SGRs similar to midterm grade requests where it’s just an unofficial progress grade? Or is it your actual grades after the semester is over? I could have sworn it was the former for some reason.
My semester ends the 22nd of May which is kinda late compared to most schools. That would make waiting stink even more.
Hey guys! I am currently a senior in high school and I really wanted to get into USC, but I got rejected this year. I am super motivated to attend the school, so I will go into the community college route. I got into several UCs but decided not attend them and pursue USC, instead. Do you guys have any tips and suggestions for me? Thank you!
Also, does USC still ask for high school GPA/SAT/ACT score? I was given conflicting information. And if so, does it play a large role in the admissions process? I had overall a 3.75 UW GPA in HS, top 10% of the class, 9 APs, 3 Honors, and etc.
@jj1999 yes. For TTPS you have a unspoken contract that as long as you fulfill ALL the requirments they are admitting you. Typically they are first to be admitted, but they can also hear on the last day back as its not set in stone.
@Halofax spring grade requests are typically official grades that you have recieved for the spring semester, but I was told by Mr.Grier they save a lot of spots for those who get SGRS. I know the wait sucks, but It could be well worth it as well.
When is the due date for filling out financial aid forms?
Wow thank you, that’s great to know!
wow thank you! and a 30% acceptance rate seems so high, i hope we all get in.
@tortoise78 CC student here but not from California but will try to help as much as possible. To answer your first question, your scores are not required ONLY after completing 30+ credits at CC. Now overall, the farther you are from HS with a great CC GPA the better your odds are as I’m sure you are aware at this point.
Some helpful tidbits, start on your GEs at CC and make sure they flow with your prospect major. Additionally I would personally go for a CC that has an articulation agreement already in place so your not worried about what will transfer or not. Look here: https://camel2.usc.edu/articagrmt/artic.aspx
Lastly establish a connection with your area counselor as soon as possible with your intentions at both USC and your CC. Wishing you the best of luck and rooting for you. Remember, the most important part will arguably be that GPA so really put all effort you could to go above the avg. GLHF!
@Snekfest Thank you! So you’re suggesting that it is more likely to get into USC as a junior rather than a sophomore? In all likelihood, i’ll apply as a sophomore transfer and if I dont get in, I will try again the following year.
@tortoise78 Yup and your plan sounds very good too. It’s just a general rule, not just at USC but many other schools the more credits you have the stronger applicant you are. Main priority if I were in your position is get those major pre-reqs USC wants from you as early as possible with the highest grade possible ofc. Best of luck!
@tortoise78 I was speaking to another USC advisor as was told that as there is no difference in chances for sophomore or junior admission. You actually have a greater chance to transfer as a sophomore (IF you completed whats required). It may seem like juniors have a greater chance, but if you plan well you will increase your chances since the pool is slightly smaller. If you or ANYONE has any questions feel free to dm me!
Ya I think the sophomore and junior rates are pretty similar. They want to be sure you will do well at USC, so they love sophomores with good fall and spring grades, and Juniors with good records.
I just read an article saying that admission rate for freshman has dropped down to 11%. Any idea if transfers rate is going to decrease because of the whole scandal?
@GotYa55 its 30% still and wont change over the next year. First year acceptance rates for the followinng year is projected to be 10% for first years.
I think some of you are confusing “transfer acceptance rate” and “first year acceptance rate.”
USC’s first year acceptance and/or admission rate has been reported to be 11%. These are applicants who have never attended college, like high school seniors who are applying to colleges for the fall.
Historically, transfer acceptance and/or admission rates have typically been in the mid to upper 20% range. These consist of students who are applying to USC and are current college students elsewhere.
My daughter got accepted as a sophomore transfer student and started this Jan 2019. In her acceptance letter it said that the acceptance rate for transfer students was 13%. And, I think it all depends on what college you apply to.
@symonaidanasa that sounds innacurate. According to https://admission.usc.edu/wp-content/uploads/Transfer-Profile-18_19.pdf the acceptance rate was 24 percent
@DDHH2017 maybe because she was a Spring Admit. I don’t really know. She transferred from a 4 year university and she wasn’t a Trojan Transfer. One of her current roommates is a Trojan Transfer and she is trying to finish out the school year at a CC and isn’t worried about getting in for the Fall because she is under the impression that they are very lenient on Trojan Transfers.
