2019 Chancellor’s Reception

I received an invitation to the 2019 UCSB Chancellor’s Reception! Is it true that this is essentially a guarantee of admission? I’ve heard that sometimes they make mistakes or change their mind. Also, can my chances at any other UCs be predicted from this info?

PS. I’m in NorCal and will be attending the local reception, towards the end of Feb. Does anyone who’s attended one before know how many people show up?Do you mingle with them or just stay with your family?

  1. I have not heard of any Chancellor invitee that was not admitted but again all admissions are provisional so there is always a possibility that an acceptance could be rescinded.

  2. No you cannot predict your chances of admission to other UC’s based on the Chancellor invite but if invited you are a top student so your chances would be better than average for many of the UC’s.

I would check this thread for more information and also do a search on last year’s thread about the Chancellor reception to get a better insight on what goes on.

@Gumbymom Ok, thanks!

Got a card in the mail saying I was invited to UCSB’s chancellor’s reception honoring top applicants. Does this mean I have a good chance of getting in? Attending the one in LA on march 17.

@vince824 According to many, it means you’re probably accepted! Another thread for more info:

As @Gumbymom said above, all admissions are provisional so there is always a possibility that an acceptance could be rescinded. That said, you should be OK as long as you don’t get into trouble and keep up your grades.

This example wasn’t specific to UCSB, but a friend’s daughter slacked off during the last semester of her senior year and was denied admission to where she planned to attend in the fall. “F’s” were involved. I believe it was one of the Cal State schools.

Any updates on this? I was invited to the Nor Cal one as well but couldn’t go. Did they tell everyone they were accepted? I just want to make sure before I get my hopes up!

@asm2019 Check out the discussion on this thread http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-santa-barbara/2118492-ucsb-class-of-2023-p14.html

Yes, my daughter got it last year and it was a great event- lots of people and professors. Everyone that was invited got in. they announced it at the event. The invite means you are in the top 15 percent of all applicants. Congrats!!

Did they announce CCS admissions at the reception or just admission the the University in general?

They just announced that you were in. They were also very realistic and said they knew everyone in the room was going to get admitted to other universities then presented why you should consider going to UCSB. The event was well done.

I wonder if it counted against you if you don’t attend? The people in the room were told they were admitted, but what about those who were invited but can’t make it. Any insight?

@Nhatrang no it does not count against you.

You’re in. Me and my friend got chancellor invite last year. We got in.

Admitted with honors!
