UCSB reception honoring top applicants CLASS OF 2019

I received an invitation today saying "Chancellor Henry T. Yang, in company with faculty, alumni, and staff of the UCSB, is pleased to invite you to a UCSB reception honoring top applicants. The first reception is on Sunday March 8 at San Jose. What does this mean??

I got one too. According to older posts from previous years, those who get it means they’re in. They will announce that you got in at the reception, that’s why they want you to attend.

What are your stats?

I received an invitation as well. It seems that most of the people who were invited were ultimately accepted, so I suppose it’s a hint to a decision that will probably be revealed at the event. Congrats. ^Stats should only really matter in video games

I got the letter today as well and a friend told me that her friend went to the reception last year and it was announced at the reception! Congrats guys

nvm I figured it out - but yes I got it too!

@cherryrae‌ i think I read on a different forum that they come in at different times depending on where you live

What region do you live in?

I received an invitation as well. So excited! The invitation is basically an early, informal acceptance letter right? Do you guys know if there are any hooks with the invitation? At least honors (regents came out a few weeks ago I think)? Has there been any correlation between the chancellor reception and honors? Or do honors invitations com out later? Lastly does getting an honors invitation mean you already got into the program or is it just an invite to apply to the program? Curious

Is it detrimental not to attend?

If what you all say is true, this is good news for my son. We just rsvp’d to the Los Angeles reception on March 15.

will there be food?

Has anyone in Nor Cal received an invitation yet?

@Onederlander

We are in Bay Area, and we got the invitation in mail today.

I’m in the LA area and I just got the letter today!
Also, does attending the reception mean you’re accepting the acceptance?

I live in the Bay Area and just got one!

I might not make it. If you don’t go, do they reject you?

@xquits‌ I was just about to ask! I just realized that I couldn’t make the San Jose one because I’m visiting Illinois :frowning:

I got one and I’m in the bay area, but I doubt I’ll be present at the reception :frowning:

Just to confirm, this guarantees admission correct? Received an invitation via usps in Bay Area today. Does this mean anything for regents?

My daughter got the chancellors reception invite last year. Attended the Orange County reception with about 1,000 people in attendance including family members. They announced to the invitees that they have been admitted. Accepting the invitation does not bind you in any way. Not attending does not affect your acceptance. Some applicants may not get the invitation, but I don’t think it means they won’t hear later of acceptances. The reception is nice and they do their best to hype up the school, answer questions, etc. Congratulations!
