2019 Tulane EA/SCEA Decision Thread

@ging23 my Gibson stayed “completed and awaiting review” the whole time- my status never changed to the “pending review” message. it went straight from the former to accepted

do you know what “pending review” means? @reteamnosleep‌

@ging23 not too sure! i read somewhere on this thread before though that usually “awaiting review” means that your file is still on the stack, and “pending review” means that they have started looking through your file. i think either way it still means that you still have a great chance of getting accepted so no worries!

do you think i will be deferred since it is close to the December 15th deadline?

Decision: Accepted!

I received my EA acceptance via Gibson just yesterday! I was surprised at how quickly it came through because I only submitted on November 27th and wasn’t expecting to hear back until closer to December 31st, but I happened to log in and was very very happy. :)

I am a white female from WA. Only slightly far away from NOLA ;)

My personal statement & Why Tulane may have helped me also because I love writing and consider myself a strong writer.

Good luck to you all!

All of a sudden this evening Gibson tells me my application is incomplete. They also say “Your application is missing the following items:” but there are no items on the list… This is bizarre since they have said my application has been complete for several months. I e-mailed them about it. I just want to know if I was accepted or not.

Applied Early Action. Today application went from Awaiting Review to “Pending Review. We will try to get you a decision in just a few weeks, but you will receive an update on your admission status by December 15th at the latest.” Is this a deferral? What can the update mean? Not sure what to make of the “Just a few weeks” when it was an EA application. Did anyone else receive this or know exactly what this means? Very confused!

Congrats to all the students who have been accepted. However, for those kids who applied months ago to be sitting around waiting for a response I find it to be so unfair while kids who applied just a few weeks ago are getting their acceptance letters.

I agree. Also, my status was also changed on Sunday from Awaiting Review to Pending Review and that it will get to me at the latest by December 15. Can anyone tell me what this means? Does it mean I am deferred? Why doesn’t everyone’s status say this?

@bengalmombengal‌ That’s how I feel, I had my application complete in the middle of August and still haven’t heard :/

Has anyone from Michigan/the midwest heard? I’ve heard nothing and mine has also been complete since August.

This and those who are agreeing with it, with all due respect and understanding about the anxiety, just don’t understand Tulane’s process. Most importantly, Tulane is NOT rolling admissions. Yes, they will let students that they consider strong admits know very quickly in many cases. That doesn’t just mean high stats and strong interest, although that is very often the situation.

But, for those students they are less sure about for whatever reason, they will not make a decision, be it acceptance, deferral, or denial until the very end. I see nothing at all unfair about that, they are judging these applicants against the totality of the applicant pool.

The bottom line is that the premise of a post like that is that the applications should be handled and a final answer given in the order they are received. That was never promised or even implied by Tulane since they are very clear that they are not a rolling admissions school and that the latest they will send a decision is December 15, so it cannot possibly be “unfair”. To expect anything different is a mystery to me.

@reteamnosleep‌ Are you sure about that. Mine has said awaiting review for about a month and I submitted my app a long time ago. I’m worried that it’s taking a long time because they looked it over and put it back in the pile for another evaluation or something. Is that something they do?

What bothers me is its not different states not getting to applicants and its not stats based on decisions reading this thread and its not an art supplement as my D is not an artist but the promise of a quick decision and its simply not true for certain applicants.

@jewishninja‌

In a sense, yes that is exactly what they might do. If they don’t want to deny you admission yet but don’t feel they can say yes either, they will wait and make a decision later, be it later this week or as part of the RD pool.

I don’t see that promise anywhere on the web site. I see a decision deadline of December 15. Faster decisions are a bonus for those whom they feel they can make a quicker decision. Feeling that there was such a promise is the flawed premise.

I would also point out that reading past posts on this web site, plus numerous posts I have made this application cycle, should have disabused anyone of the notion that all decisions come early, or that applying early always results in an earlier than Dec. 15 decision.

@tarikd. From Michigan and got my acceptance today.

The email sent from Tulane certainly said quick decision.

Can’t respond to that since I cannot see it.

I’ve had the “pending” message since Friday and it’s just stressing me out because I don’t know whether I should worry about getting my scholarship project and essays in or not as they are due the 15 as well?
