2022 Super Bowl Game/Commercials

It’s a good thing there are many genres of music because if the world only had one or two there would be no music industry and very little creativity.

What music should make you do is FEEL something, HEAR something. It might be the beat or the words. Honestly, I think that “music with a message” - whether I support the message being shared is much more creative than a lot of music in my younger days which basically was about falling in love and breaking up!!!

No one person’s music is BEST. Like any art it certainly is up for criticism and discussion. But savage dislike because it’s not your thing is snuffing out the spark of music.

I’ll also give a hand to these performers who I think at the youngest was just under 50 for being fit enough to stand on a stage and perform in front of (judgmental) America.

BMW ad was my favorite. Loved Mary J. Bilge—great outfit!

I didn’t watch it, but apparently, Snoop and Martha Stewart co-hosted this year’s Puppy Bowl!: Martha Stewart Spent Super Bowl Weekend With Drake, Snoop Dogg, & Tracy Morgan

Their deep friendship spanning more than a decade, and their wonderful cooking show together, is a testament to the influence that rap has had over the years. It’s also a testament to what kind of people Snoop and Martha are. When you get a chance, google and read up about their amazing relationship. It’s almost at a mystical level. I love their show!

Do I love all rap? Certainly not, much like I don’t like everything just because of its genre. However, the halftime performers are legendary and deeply influential in today’s culture and with our young folks and old folks like me (plus Snoop is funny as can be!).

I love Snoop! I also don’t mind the music as a whole.

But I thought the set was ill conceived for the venue and the sound quality was off. It just didn’t have the energy and razzle and dazzle of other half time performances for me.

I think this is really important to note: “the halftime performers are legendary and deeply influential in today’s culture” - and should be noted, that that age range spans several decades (today’s Kendrick Lamar to Dr. Dre, the oldest at 56).

Savage dislike is a thing?

Don’t know everyone’s race. I don’t know if I’m “older” - early 50s - but yes, I grew up with 70s and 80s music - and while I knew all the names, and everyone knows Snoop - I couldn’t pick out the other performers if I bumped into them at the grocery store.

That said, they used to have the “legends” of rock and the past few years they have the legends from different and more recently popular genres. I mean, would they ever have Tony Bennett (and he precedes my genre) - the answer is no.

Who are they targeting? Like any other product, that’s the question - what is the target market because it can’t be totally expansive. Sam Adams hits a different market than Budweiser. BMW hits a different market than BMW. Obviously, based on your comment, we know who it’s not - well it’s not me anyway.

Someone mentioned eminem’s legendary song of 20 years ago - personally I’ve never heard it - yep, we’re all different with different musical tastes - and obviously, we all wish our individual tastes could be met.

I didn’t like the halftime show at all and I don’t apologize for that opinion.

I don’t love hip hop, but have always thought Eminem is just brilliant. I thought all the performers were fine, but agree with others that the set and sound quality were not great.

No one has talked about Duane Johnson, bringing out his wrestling persona. And, who dressed him? Bad magenta color family mismatch. His arms/upper body look even bigger than usual, wow!

Like Snoop Dog, the Rock is another legend…don’t know his movies (honestly) but I remember his dad Rocky Johnson in the WWF (now WWE) and he just exudes positivity - not to mention muscles that don’t seem possible. I was waiting for him to run out on the field during the game. It was a great warm up - and yes, no one else could pull off the outfit but he did.

And it was nice NOT to have that overused Michael Buffer saying - Let’s get ready to rumble.

Didn’t love his outfit, and he’s normally such a great dresser, including in his show “Ballers”…definitely a NSFW show. I do like many of his movies and agree, his positivity is a noteworthy quality…probably what allowed him to turn football disappointment into a great acting career.

I think they were trying to be on LA streets and the different areas. Nightclubs and cars I got. But, were they trying to depict military and another time prison?

I thought the commercials were just so so. The Jones/Jonas one was cute.

As to the halftime show, I didn’t see it as I was on the grill trying not ruin pork chops for the thousandth time. I’m not a rap/hip hop fan, but I had no problem with them showcasing it. They need to cover various genres, and my favs have been done many times.

I have a few favorites, but one halftime show I really loved was the dance off between Bruno Mars and Beyonce. Coldplay was the actual featured performer, but being crashed by Bruno and Beyonce was the cherry on top.

My favorite was a local HEB ad. I liked the robot dog too. I was at a party and none of us enjoyed the halftime show. We weren’t the demographics they were going after and just not music we enjoy. They need to showcase different music and more power to them.

What demographics? Music is universal . I love things from classical to Sinatra to Springsteen to country to rap and hip hop. And I’m a white woman in my 60’s! Thought it was a great show and I was hooked from the opening notes on the piano.

Thought Mickey Guyton did a wonderful rendition of the National Anthem.

I can’t even listen to that stuff. It just sounds like noise to me. But I stopped listening to popular music in the late eighties. No radio at all.

Casting a vote to say you didn’t care for the music or the commercials is fine. No apologies needed! Like lyrics, it’s the words you chose to convey your message that has people looking at or away from your viewpoint.

Ok. Well, @ChoatieMom , just our of curiosity - why did you stop listening? I like so much stuff that I have kept listening and appreciate many of the recent artists, many different types of music. It’s all interesting to me as long as it strikes a chord.

I love the Rock but don’t know what was going on with those pants last night. Not flattering.

I thought Snoop’s sound was the most, “off.” It sounded as though he were in a box. I found the sound for the other performers much better.

My junior high band director posted on FB that he had turned captioning on so he could get the lyrics better. Never occurred to me to do that! Though, he did say it did not help much. Not sure if that was because the captioning didn’t translate as well or because he just didn’t like the lyrics.
