I am worried because I applied very early and I have a GPA in the middle 50% but my SATs are around the 40th Percentile. I have great extracurriculars and I have an alumni connection (which I know is just “considered”) and I applied DUS and Summer Start so I am hopeful for all of that.
@ziveli513 I was not referring to you specifically. Was a general comment about how the timing comes into play.
You’ll hear within 10 days. Make yourself an advent calendar of sorts, with a chocolate for each day and two on the 22nd :d
Perhaps PSU would decrease anxiety if, instead of making students check their portal, they sent an email - I’m sure the constant checking heightens the stress. :s
@jlhpsu ???
Chocolate psu advent! Great idea
Chocolate helps everything
By all accounts so far portal only updates once at midnight
So checking once a day in am seems reasonable
With chocolate in hand
Nope. Then the kids will just be constantly refreshing their email.
^good point.
Georgia Tech Admissions put out a nice note on their blog to help with the waiting…
http://pwp.gatech.edu/admission-blog/2018/12/13/still-waiting/
Hi, did everyone who got accepted apply ROLLING or EARLY ACTION??
OSU really isn’t much different. My son applied in August and did not hear when they sent out acceptances on Nov 16, so must wait and hope to hear this Friday. If not it is the end of January. He applied the same day to PSU and was accepted into Smeal UP campus on 11/26. Thousands of applicants, so many must wait.
While I am finding these posts helpful, I would like to stop following and just check back on my own rather than to receive emails of comments. I know I can stop email notifications, but that would remove me from the other threads I wish to be notified about. Is there anyway to stop following a (this for right now) particular thread (I don’t have it bookmarked)? Thanks in advance!
@njhighschoolgirl Same thing…it’s all modified rolling, which means apply by a certain date, hear by a certain date. EA notifications are by Dec 24, regular decision notifications are by Jan 31st
@NJCheermom3 It is definitely major dependent. What you need to get into undecided or a liberal arts major is not what is needed to get into Nursing, Engineering or Smeal. If others in her school have heard that doesn’t mean anything good or bad for your daughter. The decisions are unfortunately random. But if she applied EA she will hear in the next 10 days! A 3.4 is low for UP in general. Depending on her weighted GPA, she may be deferred to a commonwealth campus. If that happens, she cannot do the 2+2. PSU Nursing is finish where you start. So if she starts at Altoona, or Behrend for example, she would have to spend all 4 years there, but she’d still come out with a PSU degree.
@NJCheermom3 , since her stats are a bit on the low end for nursing at UP, she may want to consider Altoona, but that assumes she isn’t offered a spot in another direct entry nursing program in her state of residence…to avoid out of state tuition. Altoona has a wonderful program and is only 45 min from university park. Direct entry nursing is super competitive. I read somewhere that the northeast, especially Pennsylvania, has more direct entry programs than other areas of the country, so students as far away as California are fighting to get those limited spots. My SoD’s class is down to 160 students, but they started with about 180 and had about 1800 applicants. If she gains acceptance to any direct entry program, jump on it. It’s a huge accomplishment to gain admittance to any direct program. And it can save you big bucks by not having to send her to an 18 to 24 month accelerated BSN program after college.
We got a postcard from PSU with the following points:
- they got over 35k EA applications
- they hope to have all EA applications done by 12/24, and the regular ones by 1/31
- postings will continue to only be once a day
- no decisions will be announced by phone, and calls or emails to admissions will not speed anything up
I think a lot of information we already knew, but probably in response to all the questions they are getting
Have any of you heard? It’s killing me
Well I “hope” they get to all by 12/24 too!
That’s nice they sent a postcard, thanks for sharing
And good to hear portal actually is updated once a day
Just went to mailbox, d got a postcard from admissions too saying hang in there etc
That is nice, seems we here waiting aren’t unusually eager for a reply???
@Phil3715 when was the decision date, can you please share?
Both of those scores are well within PSUs published ranges. Looks like a match school to me.
