@AAA12455 If he applied to Schreyer by Nov 1, everyone gets an interview. If it’s an invitation, most get that email, no connection to acceptance. Just sit tight!
@amomoffour thanks a lot. My sons portal says still says under review, we applied in the beginning of October.
@opallady thank you and yes you are right! I can’t seem to edit it.
My S said his portal says pending. Has anyone else encountered this?
@Guru1060 that is a new one, what did it say before it was pending or is it same from the beginning? My son’s says under review from the beginning.
@patatty oh those Shreyer essays are killing us!
@NicholasSh was it at midnight? looks like they are finally getting to acceptances! I think it’s just once daily at midnight.
I think that it must happen overnight because I checked late at night and decision was there by early morning!
I wrote a post and I deleted it…because it’s redundant and says the same things I (and others) have said a hundred times about the Penn State process.
I will say this however…Penn State is a HUGE school. They get over 100,000 applications system wide (as opposed to Pitt’s 25k applications). They tell you how it is and then they do their thing. If I’m being blunt, they do not care if you wait 5 months, or 2 weeks. There are more behind all of us who will wait. They essentially do tell you that you could wait months when the application opens August 1 but they don’t guarantee a decision until Dec 24. But I digress…
Penn State does not hand hold, and if you want them to, you will be really disappointed in your experience there. You will find great people in your classes and in town, but with 45,000 students on campus, you can hardly be anything but a number on a grand scale. Your professors will not think of you that way - but institutionally, the University will. So will every large school. It’s a great school - but it’s a big school with all of the problems big schools have. You have to want that giant atmosphere to be happy there. Many are - many are not.
Lastly, I feel a bit bad for the folks here on this decision thread that are posting their good news only to be overrun with others posting about why they or their child didn’t hear. This is a celebratory post. If you’d like to vent, and I understand the desire to do so, please start another thread. Tonight, I am going to delete any post that is not a decision thread or a congratulations in this thread. You can talk about anything you’d like, but in other threads so that we can keep THIS thread as a celebration for those accepted. Then when YOUR child or YOU hear, you can come back here and we will celebrate with you, or offer empathy if the decision is not what you’d hoped.
Thanks for your understanding
~Penn State forum moderator
Edited to add: I ended up leaving up posts that explained the process or were questions about statistics because those are helpful for everyone to see, but I did delete extraneous and venting posts from this thread and it took us from 14 pages down to 9! Let’s keep this thread information and decision related folks! Feel free to start more threads! Thanks!
@jlhpsu With a sophomore daughter (super happy) and a son applying - you could not be more on point. Congratulations to all, it is a true accomplishment and you should be proud!
@ziveli513 , I was a portal checking addict a few years ago. Yes, it’s cruel, maddening, and unnecessarily inefficient.
I can assure you that your daughter is well qualified to get into Penn State. The admissions process isn’t the only pain about the Penn State experience. Once she’s accepted, you can join the Penn state parents closed Facebook group where we also complain about the course registration process. Big schools = big pains. But when they walk away with the Penn State degree, it’s all worth it.
@Sophley thank you!!
