Hey everybody,

This is my first time to these forums; I'm hoping to gain some knowledge from those of you out there with a better understanding of the college admissions process than myself. My application is a little unique considering I graduated from HS in 2007 and am just now applying as a freshman to both the University of Washington and Western Washington University. I've already sent my application into both schools, however I am a little concerned about my strength as a prospective student.

I graduated with a cumulative 3.3 GPA and took numerous AP and honors credits. Instead of clubs and school-related sports, my extra-curriculars consist of guitar & piano lessons and snowboarding. I have a strong work history since my Sophomore year with multiple positions as a store manager. I have a little community service experience, but nothing outstanding. I am also very confident in my personal essay.

I took my ACT and SATs in 2008:

SAT - 1820
Critical Reading - 660
Math - 610
Writing - 550

ACT Composite - 30
English - 35
Math - 25
Reading - 32
Science - 27

Last year I applied to both Seattle University and Ithaca: accepted to Seattle University (decided to turn down because my FAFSA didn't kick in much financial assistance), denied at Ithaca. How good are my chances at UW and WWU? Will my time away from scholastics affect my status as an applicant? I'd sincerely appreciate outside opinions so I can better prepare myself in the event I'm not accepted to either.

Thanks!
Matt C.
