I took the SAT for the first time in Nov. (I'm a junior). I have not taken any courses, read any books etc. in preparation for the test. My scores were:
CR- 760
WR- 700
M- 640

I have a 3.95 GPA unweighted (my only B is in a math class), I am 2nd in my class, 400 hours of volunteer work, 3 year varsity swimming, club president (3 clubs), peer mentoring program etc.

What are my chances at Dartmouth, Amherst, Swarthmore? My mom went to Dartmouth, so I suppose that makes me a legacy. What about the others? Should I take the SAT again to try and bump up my math?

Even as a legacy at Dartmouth, you’ll need higher scores. The others are unlikely with a 2100 too as an unhooked candidate.

I’ve worked with many Dartmouth legacies. Dartmouth, like the other ivies, rejects about 75% of legacies. Shoot for 2250 if you attend a private school or affluent public and live in a state sending many applicants. 2200 if you’re from an underrepresented place.

Since you’ve only taken the SAT once and you’re only a junior, I’d definitely take the SAT again to increase your chances in going to any of those schools. If you increase your math section to 700+ your chances are pretty solid, not that they aren’t as of now, but it helps. Best of luck!

I got into Dartmouth Bound (apparently like admissions) with a 2060. I have a friend who got in with 1800 or less sat I but an 800 on spanish sat ii

I’m not as pessimistic as the other posters here about your chances. The SATs look a little low, but if you bring up the W and the M by about 50 points each you’re pretty on target.

What did you do to prepare for the SAT the first time? Do you know what your strengths and weakenesses are on the test?

I did absolutely nothing to prepare for the test. I went in hoping to gauge my strengths, and to experience the format of the test. I’m also wondering about Oberlin College- are their SAT requirements any less stringent?
