So i have a question for anyone who knows moderately anything about SATs and admissions. Would a 2150 vs a 2180 really make that much difference in the admissions decision? I mean its 30 points. My best friend got a 2180, i got a 2150 (both superscored), my sat dropped from a 2110 to 2070 the second time, darn sat math. We both want to go to similar schools, so any thoughts on whether that 30 points will make a large amount of difference? any advice would be greatly appreciated, as i am now focusing on the act- hoping for a 33+

A 2180 is better than a 2150, but there isn’t a huge difference between the two.

I am assuming Duke weighs the ACT and SAT equally? so do you think i should waste my time on the SAT again or go to the ACT… Oh and do fall SAT scores usually get in in time for ED? (i am assuming they will have an early Oct date)

I only sent my ACT and got in and they do weight them equally (pretty sure everyone does). If you send the ACT you don’t have to send subject tests, but I did anyway. October date would get there and I believe that there is a sept and mid/late oct date for the act that would get there on time too.

if you are good enough for them to accept you with a 2180, then you are probably also good enough for them to accept you with a 2150

I think it depends on how your scores are distributed…I used to have a 2180, but my scores were CR: 750, W: 800, M: 630, so I retook it to get my math up. If they’re all pretty equal, focus on the ACT.

Yeah, my superscore breakdown is a 730 CR 690 math (both times…darn sat) 730 writing. all pretty close in range. Do you guys think a 33 is good enough? or would i be better off with a 34+. (obviously i would love a 36)

I got in ED with a 33

a 33 is a really great score, especially since the range is like a 30-34. even with a 32, if you have the grades/essays/ecs to back it up i am sure you will have a competitive chance, even with a one or two point difference!

Keep in mind that when duke evaluates the SAT, they take the average of your CR and writing and ad it to your math.

Here’s an old thread related to this:

So then what is it out of? that would give me a 1420…hhhmmmm. 1420/1600. well i have never heard that before, that’s interesting. Thanks for the input guys! off to study for the ACT!
