2200 SAT for ivy league?

I have a 770 CR 720 M 710 W on my SAT (one sitting).
Will this hurt/help my chances for Brown or Penn? I have heard mixed reviews. Should I retake the SAT or will it not make much of a difference?

Well your SAT is just one small portion of the college application process, especially to schools like Brown and Penn. I will say this: Penn likes its test scores and it likes them high. I’m a firm believer that the writing section is THE easiest section to improve on. Spend just a little bit of time on learning grammar errors that show up on the SAT and simply practice – over time you’ll begin to notice patterns in the errors and your eyes will just widen with anticipation. I do think it’s a good idea if you retake and focus on math and writing so you can superscore (though if you outperform on all fronts then fantastic). Now I only recommend retaking IF you have taken and scored well on at least 2 SAT Subject Test. If not, then you ought to focus on the Subject Tests for the September testing date. Hope that helps!

Thanks so much, that is great advice. I’ve already taken 2 SAT subject tests so I am done with that. Any more input is also appreciated :)

You are near the threshold for the Ivies. It is at the point that you need great essay and EC. Score is important, but don’t just focus on that only.

It’s not all about stats. The competition among top scorers is fierce and the ones who stand out have more than numbers in their favor. Take a look at the rest of what you will present in your app- you have this summer to fine-tune the personal side, the parts where you show maturity, vision, willingness to be involved and make the effort- and the results.
