I've taken the SAT twice. The first time I got:
Cr: 640
Math: 700
Writing: 800

2nd time:
Cr: 780
Math: 710
Writing: 750

I know 710 is still a good enough score, but I really wanted it to be higher. Should I retake? What if I don't do as well on some sections when I do retake it? Do colleges truly superscore or would they see that as a negative?

Any insight would be of great help.

Are you applying to LACs or tech schools?

The “reachy reaches” I’m looking at include namely Stanford, Duke, and Brown. But I DEFINITELY want to do something science or engineering related so I wouldn’t be opposed to going to a tech school, but I havn’t taken a math SAT 2 (I have taken physics though) and my SAT math as you see is only 710.

Also, what tech schools would you suggest applying to if I decide to?

Thanks

If you think you can get the scores up, why not retake the test? Would it take away too much time from other worthy activities?

What if my critical reading goes down a bit (hopefully with more vocab work it wouldn’t, but you never know)? Will that matter?

For schools that superscore, there is no risk if your CR score goes down the next time you take the SAT.

I would definitely retake it again.

It is very tough to get into a top 15 school.

Perhaps raising your math score from to a 730 might be just the item that pushes you over the top.

I guess one more time wouldn’t hurt. If you’re confident that you can boost your score, then go for it. And don’t worry about CR dropping.

Of course, if you do well on the SAT II math II then it’ll cover for your 710. Something to think about.
