So hard everywhere this year... the middle 50% SAT/ACT has shot up so much at Vandy.</p>
<p>Thankfully I'm at the 75% mark for SAT/ACT scores... but that doesn't provide that much comfort... This will be the longest week in my life...</p>

<p>In an earlier post I made the comment that it wouldn't only be Vandy alums scratching their heads and wondering if they would have earned admission this year, but likely many upperclassmen/women as well. Brad and the staff at OAU are to be commended for the way in which they deal with what is always, but this year more than ever, a monumental task of reviewing applications while staying connected to applicants and their parents. Like rodney in an earlier post, my past experiences with this office have never been anything but positive and as I know that it must have been harder than ever to build a community of Vanderbilt students for the class of '12.</p>
<p>I have been through the experience of rejection by the first choice school with the '06 VU grad and all I can say to those of you waiting is that if you are one of those who will suffer a disappointment in the next few days, after you lick your wounds, know there will be a school where you can thrive both academically and socially. Wishing you all good luck and a wonderful college experience!</p>

After posting I saw your last question. I suspect that statistically, yes, the RD admit rate is below 20% for this admissions cycle. In some old files I have printouts of articles that appeared in The Hustler citing admissions statistics from previous years (these were collected after S entered and while we were all crossing fingers that D would join him as part of the class of '09).<br>
Random stats:
- In spring '04 Dean Shain announced that applications rose 1.9% to 11,113 for the class of '08. The previous year had seen a rise in applications of 11.4%.
-Vanderbilt's acceptance rate dropped to slightly above 40% in 2003 and Dean Shain's predictions for the class of '08 was that the overall rate would continue to drop to well below 40%, with A&S continuing to be the most selective college.
-ED acceptance rates for '08: 53.8% for ED1 ad 33% for EDII.<br>
- For class of '09, per article in The Hustler (4/22/05), the overall admissions rate was 34.5% (4010 students), down from 38.2% for class of '08. Almost 12,000 students applied for the class of '09. Mean SAT quoted as being slightly under 1400, but noted that acceptance of those with SATs of 1500+ had dropped from 92% to 75% in three years.
-ED acceptance rate for '09: 55% for ED1. Early Feb. article doesn't give EDII rate.</p>
<p>As you can see, with such a dramatic increase in applications this year, to over 17,000, all bets are off in terms of predicting admission with any degree of certainty unless you are a super-applicant with an amazing, amazing hook.</p>
<p>I haven't posted these stats to scare or depress you, but to make you understand that you can't judge yourselves by the stats of people you know who currently go to Vanderbilt or your GC's opinion or anything else. If you were smart enough to have been a seriously considered applicant, you are going to succeed wherever you end up!</p>

<p>Interesting, however, VU that the people we know who "pulled the trigger" and applied EDI have stats WAY BELOW the ones released by Brad......It doesn't apply to my d, but I do feel for the kids who had to wait until RD for FA and don't really have a chance......</p>
<p>We, on the other hand, couldn't pull the ED trigger b/c of indecision on my d's part.....The yield this year will be very interesting if they were very "stats" focused for RD; many of those accepted will no doubt be accepted by Ivy's as well, I would imagine, with those SAT scores......</p>

<p>That admit rate has to be one of the more selective in the country. 23%? Brutal! Virginia's stats showed 33% or there abouts. For those of you who get in this year be very very thankful, because next year it probably will be even worse. The SAT scores shot up 4% or 60 pts. If that happens again we are looking at PERFECT SAT's on the high end for next year. WHAT? Vandy is some kinda awesome place, huh?
