I have no money and I do not at all trust my parents to pay more than 10k a year. However, they gross ~150k a year. I do have a lot of siblings but I'm not sure that that's really a significant factor in getting aid even though my mom tells me it is. Before I graduate, two of them will probably be in college at the same time as me so I wouldn't be surprised if my parents couldn't come through with the money.

What schools should I be looking at? Bama and UAH are off the table. I am extremely desperate.

I would prefer to be in debt less than 50k from undergrad since I'm going to dental school afterward.

Why are ba and uah off the table?

Sent from my DROID RAZR using CC

Already accepted to both and I’m looking for other options. My plan was to just to apply to those two schools but bama converted my GPA and I’m short on the cutoff by .02. My counselor told me that whether or not I get full tuition depends on the applicant pool, which wasn’t very helpful.

I would rather not go to uah.

bama converted my GPA and I’m short on the cutoff by .02

If Bama didn’t convert your GPA correctly, then contact your area rep…that may get fixed.

What is the issue with your GPA conversion?

What is your weighted GPA?

What did your SCHOOL write on your transcript as being your GPA?

My counselor said she sent them whatever I had on naviance, which includes my weighted gpa- a 97. I didn’t think a 97 would go all the way down to a 3.478.

My counselor called bama and they said whatever it displays on the honors college app is final. I emailed bama like 3 or 4 days ago questioning the conversion and asking whether or not I would qualify for scholarships but they haven’t gotten back to me for some reason.

that is sooooo not true. What is on the Honors College is NOT final. There have been changes when mistakes are made. If you have a 97 on your transcript then that is a 4.0.

PLEASE contact your Bama area rep with this. This is an EASY fix. Another student had the exact same problem a couple of weeks ago and the fix was FAST and EASY.

Let me help you with this…this is not a hard thing to fix.

Thanks a ton m2ck; you’re always so helpful. It doesn’t surprise me at all that my counselor was way off on this one.

Probably a stupid question but who do you mean by bama area rep?

^^Well this is worrisome, since D’s GPA is less then op’s. If they’re recalculating now, there’s no way to predict.

Bama doesn’t recalculate unless a school uses an odd grading system…like a 8.0 scale.

And if your school uses a 100 pt scale, then a 97 is a 4.0. No odd recalculation.

Your Bama rep is determined by where you live. Send me a PM and we’ll figure that out for you.

If your transcript has a 97 on it for your cum weighted GPA from grades 9-11, then you’ll be fine. What likely happened is that either your GPA was misread or the weighted was accidentally overlooked, and only the UW was inputted.

This is NOT a hard thing to fix. :)

Don’t email - call!

I don’t understand why kids refuse to use the phone for something important…

I think it’s because they’re in school during most of business hours.

I agree that a call might fix this. But, I also know that an area rep can get this fixed quickly.

The entire story is unclear. The thread title has a 3.3, then a 97 turning into a 3.478. There has to be more involved.

^^^

I saw that. I thought it meant that his UW GPA on a 100 scale was calculated as a 3.3, and his W GPA on a 100 scale was a 97, but miscalculated to be under a 3.5.

The bottom line is that IF his Weighted GPA on his transcript for grades 9-11 is a 97, then his GPA is higher than a 3.5. And, if so, then Bama made a mistake and inputted his UW GPA instead of his weighted. An easy mistake to make when thousands of transcripts are being inputted.

@Erin’s Dad

I have a 3.3 unweighted, a 97 weighted. It shows up on the honors college app as a 3.478.

Today, I had my GC talk to bama and the redid my GPA one more time…now it’s a 3.36 haha but I think that’s from unweighted. My counselor said that if I redo the weighting myself and show that my GPA is higher then they might consider it.

Does your GC understand that Bama will use the weighted GPA if she gives them that?

does your transcript say a 97 weighted or not?

If not, then have your GC handwrite on your transcript that your weighted GPA is a a 97. Seriously, this isn’t hard to do.

She says she sent them the 97. I don’t know what else to do.

Something is wrong. A 97 on a 100 scale is a 4.0 GPA.

Please send me a PM with your home state and we’ll get you in touch with your area rep. Your GC is doing something wrong.

I’m trying to PM you but I

need fifteen posts first.

Got your PM and answered.

:)
