hello all my name is Jay and i am here because i want to figure out my chances. I am 23 years old and i live in NYC. I grew up in a pretty bad neighborhood where i made bad decisions. I finally moved to New Jersey where i "changed" got my GED and got a job at a pretty good hospital.(#1 in NYC)
here's the thing other than getting caught up in work i always wanted to go to California for school. I wanted to live the college life out there. I love the city but I love Cali more. A few reasons are because i have a passion for Surfing and I really dislike the winters here because it keeps me out of the water, i guess. Also because i always feel like i "fit" in.
So I stayed here and worked to pay off a debt and that's finally done but im 23! its never to late to start i know but i mean is it too late for me to go out there and apply for a few schools and Dorm? I've been to California many times and i hate coming back. Some people think i should just get a job over there and go to school part time. See that isn't what i am aiming for. I want to live that life i never lived were i do not have to work and i can live at school. Ill work but at school or maybe a part time job for small things like food, clothes and books. One place that i do love is Santa Barbara but i realized that I do not qualify for UCSB. So i been looking into Westmont college in Santa Barbara and I called an admissions advisor and left him a voice mail but now that i think about it, will they even give me a chance?
Can anyone in California help me out? introduce me to a school where i may be eligible. I really want to get all this started already. Thank you!
I will be applying for Financial Aid.

look up some schools in san diego. the waves r pretty good if u know where to look.

theres USD, Point Loma, CSU San Marcos (about 30-40 miles away from the beach but still close compare to others), SDSU, UCSD (big reach though), and many community colleges such as mira mesa, southwestern, san diego city, etc.

i hope this helped a little. i dont know that much about ur situation.

Anyone else? Is not all about the waves.

How about going to a community college for two years and then transferring? Maybe you will find this post helpful....

Hey I'm pretty sure that UCSB is a lot easier to get into than Westmont College (a Christian school btw). Not sure about non-California residents though.

Really? The reason why I also said westmont was because I read that their acceptance rate was over 75%
