24/7 Libraries

I'm a med student here at penn and was wondering whether anyone knew of any study places that were open 24/7. Came from hopkins undergrad and we always had options but the libraries here close early. I think it's ridiculous not having a single library open 24/7 at a top school. Anyone have any solutions? Or know what website might be better for this sort of question?

Thanks

The Van Pelt Undergraduate Study Center (basement) is usually open 24 hours during the semester, except for weekends. Many other libraries close at midnight. During exam time there are extended hours.

You can find hours for all Penn libraries here: [Hours & Events for Van Pelt Library – August 2012](http://events.library.upenn.edu/cgi-bin/calendar.cgi?&library=vp)

Get a group of students together, go to see the dean or advisor, and politely request suggestions? You can’t be the first student to ask about this.

Huntsman is open 24/7, just not during the summer.

^^^Area all areas in Huntsman accessible to non-Wharton students 24/7?

Sort of. If you want to book a GSR (group study room), you need a Wharton account to get onto SPIKE. However, if you’re looking to study at night, then most study rooms are more or less empty after 2:00, and it’s easy to walk into an empty one without getting a reservation. If that doesn’t work out, you can just study in the forum downstairs – there are chairs with small tables attached to the arms.

I loved studying/doing work at Huntsman… even if you don’t get a GSR, the desks that line the halls are surprisingly comfortable and (for me at least) really encouraged working instead of wasting time.

Had to check my soul at the door, though… it IS Wharton, after all…

Gratz on 1000 posts chrisw.

I’d recommend the forum in huntsman over the GSRs, much softer lighting. Never liked staying in GSRs for extended periods of time, my eyes always seem to feel more tired than they should after working there. It’s useful for group studying (as the name suggests) though as they have two monitors hooked up to the pcs.
