2400 and NO ECs! Can I get in anywhere?

Ummm... I don't know what the book award is....
The Rensselaer Medal is supposed to be for Math and Science. At my school, they ask around a bit to see who is interested in RPI, and only choose from those kids! It wouldn't hurt to email your counselor - did you check that website? There is a search tool that will show you if your school has a nominee for the year.

Yeah, it said that we already chose one. -___-

The kid that they chose isn't really outstanding in math or science... I mean, he's smart and all, but I don't think his courseload or activities put him at the top of the class in terms of math and science qualifications. Maybe he found out about it and asked for a nomination? Or maybe he'd already expressed interest in RPI to a counselor. Oh well... I'm happy for him. (:

Have your counselor call or email - really. RPI would LOVE to have you, and sometimes they let a school nominate a Jr. and a Senior - if school hasn't started for the year, you could technically be considered either!

I'll definitely ask her about it! Thanks so much. :]

Freaking out about my ECs. Am I flattering myself to think that I have a chance at institutions that accept only students with the drive and ambition that I (judging by my lack of distinguishing ECs) lack?

Good way to bump it... (:

Anyways, no. There are always the stories about the kids with little or no ECs that get in to Stanford and the like.

Just thought of this thread... why not bump this baby?

Oh, also: got MD Distinguished Scholar. So if I go to a school in MD (i.e. JHU...), I get $3000 a year. Not a lot compared to tuition, but hey, every little bit counts.

Congratulations!

I think we've established you have as good of a chance as anyone at getting into your top choice. There is not much else to say other than write good essays, and don't lie or appear fake in other aspects of the supplements.

I can still bump this when I'm bored, lol. Hatechu. But yeah... I doubt there's a lot more to say. I'll do my best.

I'm fine with that. I just think this thread has run its course, so to speak.

Like everyone said, I think you're def good for
University of Delaware, Case Western Reserve, Northwestern, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

order of reaches
Brown
Johns Hopkins
Wellesley
Princeton
MIT

i think you're in good hands =)

oh hai der

you're soooo smart i'm so jealous. can't tell you anything about college cuz i'm in the same position as you except not as amazing, but i believe in you! you'll do awesome anywhere you go. <3

^ ILY

~ ~ ~

lawl useless bump

Nothing new, except that I got my internship!!! I'm interning with a Johns Hopkins professor in the Cognitive Science department. Soooo excited!!! (Also, do you think it'll help me get into JHU?)

SAT IIs: Taking Chem and retaking French in October... and Physics in November, although I guess I don't really have any good reason to take it in addition to Chem, lol. But heyyy, why not?

ALSO, I'm gonna do the Science Olymps and Chemathon this year, since I'm planning on going into science and all, but I don't think I should mention them on my apps since they're not ongoing thingsss. I dunno, maybe I'll mention them while talking about activities I've pursued related to my speculative major, but not under my "EC" section since they're not that significant. Same with the Science National Honor Society, which is being started up this year.

lmfao@ poseur. Never thought I'd see you with something like a chances thread..

And more epic lulz @ myself; no idea how I clicked the "omg I'm paranoid and i need other random people to determine my chances at school X" forums..

;). Epic sleep.

Umm, yeah, you're in at MIT. Any girl with 4.0 and 2400 applying there will get in. Two girls with 2200s and like 3.8s and the same/only very slightly better ECs got in recently from my school of 400.

Many kids are accepted for academic reasons alone. It's just that a kid with high stats cannot GUARANTEE himself acceptance by virtue of those stats. Even with good ECs. Even with perfect stats. There is an excellent chance that you will be accepted to a number of top schools, but to say you would get in anywhere is not a sure thing.

I'm a sophomore at Brown University concentrating in neuroscience, although I'm not really interested in cognitive neuro but more towards the cellular and molecular neuroscience. Brown in very competitive, so...good luck!

I defintely see you in at Delaware with A LOT of money. Delaware actually has an excellent science program compared to their other programs. Though engineering is their specialty (huge endowments from du Pont and Gore) their other science programs are very well respected.

Cptofthehouse: Yep, that's why I'm worried. But honestly I'll be happy wherever I get in, as long as I have SOMEWHERE to go next year.

Raiderade: That would be great... and even w/o merit aid, it's the cheapest school on my list, lol. Whyyy am I attracted to expensive private schools? >__>
