2400 SAT; 93% GPA; REJECTED from Stern

haha

hey guys, for those who feel sad about getting rejected, here is my own version of the story:

2400 SAT, 93% GPA, national-prize (Canada) professional pianist, varsity athlete (cricket, swimming)

and...

REJECTED from NYU Stern.

I am alright, in case anyone is worried.

I just find it supremely comical.

you got your decision already?
that sucks; i'm sorry :(

are you living in Canada? requesting aid? does that make you an international requesting aid?

..just trying to think of why you would be rejected

I put down No for fin aid, so that would not have been a concern.
and thanks for the empathy. much appreciated.

wow that's absolutely rediculous von_herrs..i guess that goes to show you don't know what the hell to expect

are you a bowler or batsmen?

a batsman, my dear chap.

Maybe they thought you considered Stern a safety. I got rejected at Penn State for the same reason.

or maybe youre not Asian

I think applying with the idea that you deserve a spot can be an issue.. maybe that showed in your essays? how were your essays?

Wow. That stinks. My friend applied kind of as a joke because no one thought she'd get in with her stats and somehow she was accepted. She had pretty much no ECs, mediocre SATs & GPA, applied for financial aid, and was an ORM to top it all off. Just makes this whole admission process more baffling.

I would say that zdub probably has the most likely idea. But then, I'm in no place to say.

wow...i don't believe it...where else did you apply von? im international, just have a 2220, but I got in, and I'm no varsity athlete...i was rejected from UT Austin though, cuz they prolly thought i was using it as a safety

Maybe your recommendtions were unflattering or your rank in your high school is middling even with the 93 or although obviously capable, you didn't challenge yourself by your course selection. I know that there's a strong belief that schools reject applicants who they believe will not attend, but I honestly did not see that with my friends. Also, Stern is pretty good school, very few can use it as a safety because admission to any better schools is so uncertain.

I highly doubt Stern would reject anyone because they think they wouldn't attend. NYU last year had a HIGHER yield than expected, which means there's no worries about accepted students choosing not to attend. It would be like... UC Berkeley or Michigan or Cornell rejecting for that reason.

Hmm... your ECs are impressive, but any leadership positions? Stern likes those. I mean, even though you're an excellent musician and an athlete, that's not completely indicative of leadership skills.

You are definitely a strong candidate, though, for other schools. Good luck!

well all i can say they re scared to teach you because you are smart!!!!!!

to be honest you sound like you're a mediocre candidate to me, von. every other kid I know landed a 2400 on that test, some hungover. And who isn't a pro pianist these days? I could play one with my toes..and everyone has national prizes coming out their rear.

ok sarcastic rant over, seriously that sucks dude if I were you I would be annoyed right now. Are you sure that you didn't fall asleep in the middle of your essay, have your head hit the keyboard and churn out t0ohwtpwebn g0pwtn0qrhwr2for the whole thing? Are you sure the teachers who wrote your reccs didn't secretly despise you? Are you sure your school didn't send in the wrong transcript?

The only other thing I can think of is they thought you were using it as a safety.

Nah, there are many overqualified candidates who got accepted. I'd say it was Recs/Essays.

I'm from Texas, and this year, UT Austin had far more top ten percent kids (Texans in the top 10% of their class are guaranteed a spot at any Texas public school) who had already registered than they ever have before. Some of the smartest kids from my private, non-ranking school were rejected, in fact, I don't think any of our seniors were admitted. Crazy year.

I cant think why you were rejected. You seem to have the perfect credentials. I got accepted CAS and my stats weren't so good either.

Heck, you can get into places like Stanford and all!
Were your essays bad? I think they can make or break someone.
