2400 vs RSI? (Question about how important RSI is)

Which do you think is stronger, having a 2400 on the SAT or 2300 on the SAT and having gone to RSI, as far as college admissions go?

RSI, in my opinion

I agree, RSI and 2300.

r u going to RSI ccerforlife?

What is RSI?

Uhhh.... what do SAT scores have to do with Italian Fascism?

I'm guessing RSI is a prep school?

RSI is a summer research program at MIT

Is there a reason RSI will make you lose 100 points on your SAT? But yeah, I say RSI.

im a rising junior and will apply to RSI next year. Some people say I have a good shot with my awards, etc. I took my SATs this june and got 2300, while I was hoping for a 2400. ppl say that colleges reject 2400s, but in reality it greatly increases your chances. I was a little bummed out, but I was hoping getting into a program like rsi will be good. I also hear NASA Sharp is good and much like rsi.

If you are Asian, Indian, or White and you get into NASA SHARP, you are one crazy mofo. It would be much more selective for you than RSI, although you do not gain the same experience.

RSI is a huge EC. One of national prestige and it gives you a great hook.

My neighbor went to RSI and got into Yale with a 1380 (she's asian), 3.8 GPA, and few ECs (membership to Science Club, etc),

She's not even majoring in science. But she was very people-friendly and a great writer.

2300 as a rising junior is incredible. You could always take it again if you really want a 2400, but the difference is only a couple questions.

I wouldn't say to take it again. RSI is great, and if you can get in then you are set. I would say sign up for June, and after admissions come out, decide whether or not to take it.

so how does SHARP compare with RSI for a hispanic? i wish i would have known about RSI before but i must have simply overlooked it...

i work for NASA SHARP in Johnson Space Center in Houston and work in Mission Control. How does this compare with RSI?

With RSI you are pretty much a shoe-in for MIT, and it also greatly increases your chances at other top schools. I'd pick the 2300 w/ RSI over 2400 any day!

NASA SHARP is not a big deal .. compared to RSI. RSI almost guarantees you into MIT/Caltech.

I decided against SHARP for a more local program called SEAP(Science&Engineering Apprenticeship Program) in the DC/Metro Area. I will be working at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory for physics related stuff(computational physics).

So sither, what are you doing at Houston? Sounds like fun.

RSi will give you a big advantage in applying to most colleges, but it's not a guaranteed admit. There have been people (including one here on CC) who went to RSI but didn't get into MIT for one reason or another. Having done research of any kind is definately going to help your application. Be sure to send in a copy of your research paper along with all your college applications. Some colleges will even have professors in your field of research evaluate your paper and give feedback to the admissions committee.
