250 word college essays?

With colleges that use the 250 word essay sample, should the essay be multiple paragraphs or should it be one straight paragraph. Does it work either way. Thanks for the help?

Use whatever format you feel most comfortable with. I think that making it a single paragraph makes it more concise and you don’t have to spend as much time writing an introduction for each sentence, but I’ve seen some students even write lists for some essay topics (usually a “Why ____” question). Stick with the format you feel most comfortable with.

Sometimes there isn’t an option. I just submitted an application for UIUC last week. Their essay is 300 words. I spent a bunch of time writing it as two separate paragraphs. Then I pasted it into the field in the application, and it auto-formatted into a single paragraph. I tried separating it, and it wouldn’t let me. As soon as the page was saved, it got formatted back into a single paragraph. So I ended up having to revise it to make it more fluid as a single paragraph.
