$2500 one-time national merit scholarship

I was offered this scholarship, but NU also offers a $2000 a year scholarship to national merit semi-finalists. I was told that I am only allowed to take the $2500 and ineligible for the $8000 total from NU. It doesn't seem like a good thing that I won the $2500 anymore.

Is anyone else in this situation?

My understanding is that you can use whichever is more beneficial but not both. I think the 2K from NU is only for 3 years, though.

The $2k from NU is all 4 years. And you cannot use the $2000 a year if you were awarded the $2500 one time prize.

According to person at NMSC, if you are a finalist with a first choice school that participates in the program you would likely not get the 2.5k award. Some schools give major scholarships to Merit students and the NMSC is not going to cost somebody major $ for 2.5K.

An admissions rep at NU told us the award is only for 3 years so if he is wrong then I am wrong.

Here is the answer for NU
