I just saw on :: College Planning Made Easy | Inside Source for College Admissions Requirements that Tulane's acceptance this year was 27%, which is a HUGE decrease from the 44% it was last year due to the huge amount of apps...so be that much more proud if you got in.

haha that link used to say college board but i guess not...

Just out of curiosity, how do you know that is 2009 data and not 2008? Also, I don't think the 44% is correct. Tulane got 34,000 applications for the fall 2008 entering class (Tulane website, student newspaper and Wikipedia). If they accepted 44% that would be 14960 accepted. I know their yield was only about 17% (which is rather low compared to similar schools), but that would be 2543 students entering. In actuality they had about 1500 entering. I think the 27% was for 2008. 34,000.27.17=~1550, which is close to the actual number.

I think the admit rate will actually be lower that 27% this year because they had about 40,000 apps. I am thinking about 22%. Makes their selectivity look good, for sure.

The 27% was definitely for last year. It will be even lower this year

That's correct. 44% was from 2007, which was the figure used for USNWR. 27% sounds right.

I'm completely sure that 44% was from two years ago and 27% was from last year. Besides, it's too early to know what this year's rate was.

It is very interesting what Tulane is doing. They are giving out so many free applications and a slim down version. We are in Chicago and got one, I think they must send out to everyone.

This drives the numbers for acceptances down.

yep, that's how the game is played. It will work until USNWR changes their calculation formula to take this kind of thing into account. That's not a swipe at Tulane, all schools play the game to greater or lesser degrees.

Most of the website data out there, including even the individual college's common data set, is at least a year old. Takes them time to collect the data, verify its accuraccy and update websites.

cheezwhiz, it's a game the Ivies started, if I am correct, but to a lesser degree. They do not have the free applications, but they do make it sound like that the applicant will be accepted, sending packets, and posters, and what not.

Now-a-days, everyone is playing the same game.
