29 ACT Score, am retaking, Will I be rejected, or deffered?

I received a 29 ACT score my first time and so far only time I have taken the ACT. I will be retaking it in on the 22nd and anticipate getting a 30-32 pretty easily, as it was only science last time that kept me from receiving a 34.

My question is, if I apply right now to a selective school that has a 31-32 ACT average, will they flat out reject me, or will they defer me giving them a chance to see my new score. This is of course assuming my ACT score has to be at least 31-32 for me to be a serious canditate, which I realize is not always the case.

Also, should I in some way tell them that they can be expecting a new score, by say attaching a letter to my application.

Thanks!

If you want specific schools, NYU, Columbia, Syracruse, Cornell, Claremont McKenna and other schools of similar selectivity

when are you taking your next ACT? most schools will take scores through the December test dates

In october, less than a week away

Sorry, but unless you have a hook, I would think you'll be rejected. Even their average is not enough if you're a white or asian non athlete/legacy/rich and famous at highly selective schools. Maybe Syracuse?

Im planning on majoring in economics or finance, then would like to attend business school. Any ideas for colleges a few steps down then?

as for hooks, these would be as close as I could come (as well as random info thrown in);

first generation
low-income, less than 20,000 (though some say this is a handicap)
attended boys state
interned at a law firm all summer
mock trial
debate team
plenty of volunteer work
great reccomendations
^^ both typical I know
3.8 or 3.9 GPA - kind of up in the air which
senior year I am taking 4 ap classes, as well as honors physics, A's in them all
etc.

the low income/rising to the challenge thing could be a hook...you haven't said what school you are looking at. Look at NYU

Okay, how would I go about "using" that hook, should I focus on it it my essays, or..?

Also, a few more random tidbits, I have a upward rising grade trend, from 3.7 to 4.0 (unweighted) junior year. I am 17 in a class of 340. Also I transfered from a private school with a class of 15 to my current public school, my reccomendations focus on how I transitioned amazingly well, took advantage of the additional opportunities, and got involved, top of my class, "loves learning not just getting good grades" "most ethusiastic learner I have ever met" etc.; the transition was due to a car accident that left both my parents out of work for a year, making it unaffordable.

Because of this I wasnt able to participate in sports, choosing rather to work.

I was thinking a possible choice for my essay would be my view on the transition, possibly my first day in a new large school? Hm.

Any thoughts fellas?

Sounds perfect to me!! Wonderful GPA, what schools are you looking at?

My primary choice is UofM, as I am instate. Barring getting in there I honestly dont know where I am going to go. NYU looks great, as do the schools I mentioned above but I dont know if I would have a chance.

I need safeties, matches, and a realistic reach or two...
