...for Northampton, at least that's what my weather link says. Good thing tomorrow is the last day of classes, I guess. And I'd rather a storm not hit when they were due to fly home.

Yup. You heard right. They're forecasting 6-10 inches to fall in the space of as many hours for most of Massachusetts. Unprecedentedly, the public schools in my neck of the woods are already posting afternoon closures on the local TV. Better snow than ice is all I can say.

Really guys - this site is not for weather updates.
and, uhm, "unprecedentedly"? :)

Actually, Prof, this site is for anything college-related that people care to talk about and in the Cafes even that restriction is limited. Cheers.

I'm finding it relevant. Is this when it usually starts?

Shrinkrap, last year it took until January to get an inch of snow. This year the first snowfall was the Tuesday before Thanksgiving (a piece of trivia I picked up on the news the Tuesday before Thanksgiving). Usually snow starts to fall sometime between November and January, but snow of consequence often happens in January and February.

There may be another winter storm this weekend - it depends on the direction the storm in the Midwest takes.

Shrinkrap: The snowfall amounts in Massachusetts vary a lot from year to year, especially with the warming climate. Last year it hardly snowed at all. This year we've had more than 12 inches already in the month of December. I've shoveled more in the last 36 hours than I did all of last year.

I hope no one is planning to fly home on Sunday. For those of you who live west of the Hudson: We are expecting a nor-easter -- lots of wind and up to 5 or 6 inches of snow which will turn to freezing rain or rain, depending where you are in Massachusetts. It is supposed to start late tonight -- beginning with snow -- and continue through most of the day tomorrow. Not good flying conditions.

(btw, thanks for your clarification, TD.)

Lots of snow predicted (already snowing) for the midwest. We changed D1's plans to drive home from the east coast on Sunday, bought a plane ticket for Monday at the last minute (ouch!). But at least I won't be a nervous wreck for 12 hrs on Sunday!!!
