I had my financial aid reinstated this past summer, but didn’t manage to complete the course I signed up for. I didn’t know this would affect my eligibility, but I am still meeting GPA and Progress requirements. What are the odds of my appeal letter being accepted?
I am writing to appeal my financial aid ineligibility status as a result of earning zero credit hours for the Summer 2017 semester. Over the summer, I worked 60+ hours per week between two jobs to remove myself from a financial bind. I do not view this as an excuse for my inability to receive credit for the summer semester; rather, I consider it to have been unrealistic planning on my part.
Despite my inability to receive credit for the Summer 2017 semester, I have otherwise managed to remain in compliance with Satisfactory Academic Progress by: maintaining a 2.39 GPA and a 67% Successful Completion Rate. My advisor and I have completed an academic degree plan in DegreeWorks detailing my remaining four semesters at USI. I have gotten myself into a better position financially and am no longer working strenuous hours. With that said, I will still see to it that I plan each semester with realistic expectations of my ability to balance school, work and personal life, while making my education my top priority.
After a brief few years away from USI, I returned in the Spring of 2017 with a commitment to my goal of completing a degree in Secondary English Education, finishing the semester with a 3.0 GPA. I look forward to starting back as a junior this upcoming spring in earnest, though my shortcomings over the summer have jeopardized that. Since I am still in compliance with Satisfactory Academic Progress regarding both my GPA and Successful Completion Rate, I am requesting consideration of my circumstances. Your help is greatly appreciated, and I thank you for taking the time to review my appeal.
Along with this letter, I have included an Appeal of Financial Aid Ineligibility form. If there is anything else I can provide or any questions I can answer for you, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail. Thank you.
