I currently have a D this semester for Precal as a senior and I know I won’t be able raise it as the semester is ending soon. I have already committed to SJSU and paid the required orientation, I was wondering once my second semester grades transfer in would my admission be affected?
If your acceptance was contingent on Cs or better, you stand the possibility of being rescinded. You should everything in your power to avoid that D and summon @Gumbymom and/or @ucbalumnus for further advice.
For the Cal states, you need to pass all a-g courses with a C- or higher so yes your acceptance could be in jeopardy. I would work with your Pre-Calc teacher and see if you can get extra credit or tutoring to get your grade up. If you do end up with a D at the end of the semester, then contact SJSU before they see your transcripts and find out what you can do to maintain your admission. Be proactive.
Would it matter if I already took the three years of required math (math I, math II, and math III)? Pre-calc is just an extra year of math that I decided to take on a whim to fill up my schedule.
It will depend upon what SJSU’s provisional admission contract states. Some Cal states spell it out stating all a-g courses including courses above the minimum requirements require a passing grade of C- or higher.
Call SJSU and find out if your provisional admission requirements are not spelled out in your student portal. Most school tend to be lenient to due Covid but better to find out now if this will be an issue then later when you might not have any other options.
