2nd Year Financial Aid

So I didn't get any financial aid whatsoever from Penn State. (Just the Honors college stipend and 4,000 in loans). When I called to talk to the financial aid office they told me that the majority of financial aid goes to 2nd and 3rd year students.

Is this true? How much financial aid are these students getting?

i don’t know but i have a feeling that the huge cut in money also had something to do with the terrible funds.

There were no major cuts in Fin Aid, PSU students up here wouldn’t allow it if that were so. PSU really doesn’t give all that much out unless you are talented academically or athletically or poor (EFC like 0). You may receive some money from your college yet this year. Typically schools will give you more money as you get older and declare your major. This money is based off your UG GPA and other factors.

My EFC was 0 and my package was not that good at all, especially compared to other schools. Simply put, Penn State gets enough students without ofering a lot of fin aid. I am OOS so maybe they are more generous in state. I can’t attend due to money.

You do actually seem get more AID in your second year (at least from my experience).

my mistake. i read something here saying they got $1 million cut, but i’m assuming it was false (to say the least).

i’m hoping to get in-state residency for my soph. year since i will be moving up to PA possibly. so maybe that’ll help reduce debt! :)

^^^

That will be harder than you think. A lot of states make it impossible for an out of state student to achieve residency for tuition purposes by simply moving to the state. If they didn’t, every out of state student would do the same thing. People have tried what your thinking for 50 years. It’s not a new idea, and state schools watch out for that crap.

You need to establish residency first, then apply for admission.

Here are the requirements for residency–

crap. i was planning on moving in with my grandparents (who live in pittsburgh). guess that plan is annihilated. -_-
