Um, what?

I just got accepted to Penn State UP off the waitlist, but when I checked the FA package, it said my family was expected to contribute $36,000 (and that doesn't even include the loans they tried to give me) a year. My two parents make <$55,000 COMBINED. What can I do? Should I call them and ask them to reconsider it or ask if there was a mistake? I've gotten full rides elsewhere; I really liked Penn State, but I can't there without a lot more money.

Well what was your actual EFC from the Fin. Aid App?

Penn State is pretty stingy on Aid for freshmen, especially out of state freshmen.

Congratulations for getting in off the waitlist. I feel your pain about that aid offer. Penn State has never been known for its deep pockets. All you can do is inquire and try to negotiate, but don’t expect a lot of cooperation.

Our EFC was something weird like 20 lol. Or maybe it was zero. I was talking to my dad about it, and he said the same thing about OOS freshman not getting aid. I’ll probably call them and see what happens, but I’ll not expect much. Oh well, another college to cross off, thanks for the help.
