2nd year housing

Hello, does anyone know anything regarding housing for 2nd/continuing students ? I know its based on a lottery system but anyone knows exactly what it is ? Do I have to pair up with somebody to sign up ? Or can I just sign up alone and pair up randomly in an apartment with somebody else ?

Thanks in advance.

so you're trying to get an apartment? the lottery is done after all the transfer and international students who applied get their rooms. and priority is given to students who've completed more units. I heard that if you pair up with a friend and, say, your friend has completed 45 units and you 50, they'll use your friend's 45 units in the lottery process. that's how i understand it, but i'm not 100% sure tho. you can sign up alone too.

wait, is the lottery for apartment ? or for like dorms on campus ?

check the ucsb housing website ...

The housing information isn't published till the application opens up. The way the lottery works is that there are a certain amount of spots allotted to each class (sophomores, juniors, seniors, etc) in the residential dorms and apartments (you can choose where you want to be prioritized). There isn't priority based on units, only random selection for the certain amount of spots for each class. You don't have to sign up with a roommate.

the lottery is for apartments

It's for both apartments and dorms.

where can we live if we are not selected ?

omg. it's for dorms too??. i only did research on apartments.
also, about the info i gave out earlier, scratch that lol, i messed it up with info about other stuff. sorry!

if you're not selected you can live in the IV i guess -_-" my dormmates are already looking for a house or something in the IV that we can rent together (we'r like 7 ppl lol)

Yeah, it's for both. I applied for the lottery to live in Manzanita a second year (along with a roommate) and we happened to be successful, but two of my friends weren't. They had to go with the second option which is to find a place in IV.

okay, now that the housing app is in, how do we find out? email? and does anybody know what specific date in "early March" the decisions were released last year, or the year before that? I couldn't find any posts in the archives.
thanks.
