OK so i have a 3.0 gpa and a 2220 Sat score. I also have numerous EC's ranging from 10 years in dance to cross country all the way to b being pres of 5 clubs. I am afraid tht my low GPA will not let me get into any college!!! MY subject test scores are 760.760,760!!! Please Help!!!!! Chance me on where i could go!

Is that a weighted or unweighted GPA? Someone as bright as you probably took some Honors or AP classes along the way, which might boost the GPA for admissions. What state are you in? Will you require financial aid? What are your interests? Plenty of colleges beneath the top tier will jump at the chance to admit someone who can “juice” their stats. That score is terrific, but if your grades are poor, it won’t get you into the Ivy League or some highly selective liberal arts colleges. Some state systems, like the UCs, place a higher premium on GPAs than on test scores, so they are probably out of reach for you (unless you’re a CA resident). Can you tell us a little more about your high school curriculum. Many schools with holistic admissions policies will take a chance on talented underachievers, and some colleges offer automatic scholarships for high test scores. I’d say your chances are excellent at a public university within your state, even if not at all flagship campuses. There are thousands of colleges out there. Only the most selective will turn their noses up at a 2220 score. Tell us a little more about you, and we’ll try to give you some ideas.

I failed them due to an illness i had. So I am scared about not even getting into college. What should my college essays be about?!?!?!?!!

Any tips or suggestions??? What could I do better my app? I really did make those charities!!! Please help!! THANKS!!! You guys have really helped me! If it wasnt for my illness, then i could have improved my GPA!

Your ECs are okay, not terrific for a top college (although dance as a male does probably stand out somewhat). If you had a health issue that affected your grade, you should discuss with your guidance counselor and decide if it makes sense for the GC to discuss this issue in their recommendation. It probably depends on what the issue was, though (if it was mental health related, you have to weigh the pros and cons of disclosing at all). Then you can focus your application on your strengths and what is interesting about you, not this grade issue.

You will get into colleges, but it is hard to “chance” a student with this big gap between test scores and grades.

My advice is to NOT write about your grades issue. Do you have anything interesting you can write about dancing for 10 years? I am not sure what kind of dance you do, but this is a very common EC for females, but less so for males. And you have a very long-term commitment to it, I assume you must love it. That has some good potential if you can come up with a story or a few smaller stories over the years that help demonstrate something unique and personal about you through telling them.

What can (and will) your parents pay per year for college? What kind of college (university, liberal arts, etc) are you interested in? Geographic preferences? Possible majors and future plans after college?

I know someone who had a similar situation and got into Vanderbilt .

Chance me plz

Your guidance counselor can write about the effect your illness had on your grades.

What is your issue exactly? You need to be clearer about what it is you’d like to study, where you think you’d like to study, and just exactly how much money your family has available to help pay for your education, so that we can give you more targeted advice. Right now your GPA and test scores will get you into scads of places, and some could even be free: <a href=“Automatic Full Tuition / Full Ride Scholarships - Financial Aid and Scholarships - College Confidential Forums”>Automatic Full Tuition / Full Ride Scholarships - Financial Aid and Scholarships - College Confidential Forums;

I don’t know what UT’s requirements are for in-state applicants. I know that they are selective, but you might well qualify once they weigh your IB/AP/Honors work and see your test scores. That should be easy enough for you to investigate on your own. If you knew what my high school grades looked like, or my older son’s, you would have no cause for shame. I could never get into the college I attended if I applied now. They would laugh aloud at my application. My son was on academic probation for most of his four years. He managed to get into our state’s flagship university, although he did not attend, on the basis of test scores that were significantly lower than yours. It is not as selective as UT-Austin, but still . . .

II don’t think you have a chance at UT.

what is your weighted gpa?

are you unsure of what state you are in? In another thread you say that you are in ny.

Bump!! I’m in the same exact position but I’m also President and Founder of the UNICEF Club at my school, leadership on Model UN, leadership on the Harvard Square Homeless Shelter Club at my school, elected Student Government official, owner of a jewlery buisness, and countless other things that if you want me to continue in detail I can!
