3-2 engineering program

Hi everyone..

I am curious (and interested) about the 3-2 engineering program that Middlebury offers...
3 years in Middlebury: you pick your major, take the required pre-engineering courses and keep your gpa high
and then
2 years in Columbia: you study engineering...
Finaly you take your BA from MD and your BE from Columbia

I want to major in molec. biology and biochem in Midd and then go to the biomed. engineering program at Columbia... I've heard that this is a great opportunity as it combines the benefits of a liberal arts education ( which I am a fervent supporter) with the education that a research university offers... OR ... do you think that it is better to go to a grad school after completing 4 years at Midd???

So, what is your opinion...?
Is there anyone who has followed this program???
any insight would be very welcomed...

I am also interested

I’m sure he can answer all of your questions and put you in touch with students who have done the 3-2 program.

Thanks arcadia…

Arcadia,

I don’t know if he is the one listed on the website, but if he is, He’s on sabbatical. My son was on revisit day and had tried to set up a meeting with him through email and phone messages and got no reply. When he brought up the question during a panel discussion they said he was on sabbatical but other people were able to answer his questions.

MiddKidGR,

There is an interesting thread somewhere else… I think either in the engineering forum or on the Oberlin forum about someone who did this program. Try searching using 3-2 programs and you will get some hits. Midd does cooperate with Columbia, but the more popular program for them at the moment is the Dartmouth program, they also have worked with Wash U in St. Louis.

Thanks KarateDad–I got that name from the website.
