3.3 GPA in junior year

International student.

I go to a pretty decent boarding school, and my sophomore GPA was 3.6 (two honors) and my junior GPA was 3.3 (2 APs, 4 regular courses - took two math). I am taking a course in a nearby college next fall. Top 10% in class, and 1350/1600 SAT; I have only taken once, and I might be able to make it to at least around 1450. Decent leaderships (like dorm proctor) and several awards. I am going to make an orchestra club next fall and also a president of a music benefit concert club. Have been participated in a week community service program every summer since 6th grade and other community services. Work at school library and also interning at an international NGO this summer as well as attending a summer school.

I'm interested in sociology or economics or business and also writing a research paper outside school about a topic related to these areas; I might probably submit it to a competition or something,

Do I still have any chance for Ivys? I know it is hard, but if I make my SAT up, do schools like Northwestern or Georgetown worth trying? What are other reach and safety schools should I consider?

I feel so hopeless after finishing junior year, and I need your help!

(I don't know why my previous discussion is closed, but it's an unweighted GPA)

Hmmmm… Probably not. Your GPA is rather low for an unweighted GPA. Give it a shot, but count on getting in

The college counselor at your pretty decent boarding school is going to be able to “chance” you far better than anyone here.

My school doesn’t rank but I got into top 10% society and 3.3/4.0 with six major courses which no one else in my school did. Is it still impossible? I got 4.0 GPA in my freshmen year at a different, small private school. I know it is downward but I took more rigorous courses. (my college counselor chanced me for northwestern UC Berkeley etc. but she wasn’t sure b/c I only have one SAT score which I did worse than practice tests) What about NYU stern or U Mich Ross or Carnegie Mellon Tepper? I really have no idea if some ivys and some schools like NYU or U Mich worth trying, or should I just go for easier schools?

I also have SAT2 math 800 and chemistry 760

I think your prev thread is likely closed because you asked chances and this isn’t the chances forum.

Your best resource is your school’s GC. They have admission data and know very well how students in your school do with admissions. No one here has access to that and that is a huge factor. Especially it seems your school may be tough graders if you are in the top 10% with a 3.3 jr year.

It really seems that Ivy would be unrealistic. What boarding and privates are good at is getting students into the next tier or selective others. Work with your GC to get a good list. Then pick a couple of flyers if you like. But get realistic. You have way too low gpa. SAT is good but not great. EC is good but not great. No hooks.

Spend your summer finding colleges that really fit, are really you culture wise and has opportunities in the areas of interest. You will be happier for it and have more options come admissions time. There are many colleges that will give you the tools you need to be successful.

Perhaps instead of asking about your chances of getting INTO an Ivy with a 3.3 GPA, it would be more beneficial to ask how well you could DO at an Ivy with a 3.3 high school GPA. Why set yourself up for struggle? Look for schools a bit lower down the tier which would challenge, but not overwhelm you.

There is a good education to be had a hundreds of schools.
