I’m going to be a Junior, and my GPA so far is a 3.3. I’, taking 3 APs and 2 Honors classes this year.
What’s the max GPA I can get before applying to colleges if I get straight A’s from now on?
If you’ve had 4 semesters and your cumulative GPA is 3.3 then it’s easy to figure out the effect of 3 additional semesters of 4.0 (assuming you take equal numbers of classes each of your three remaining semesters)
4 x 3.3 = 13.2
3 x 4.0 = 12
13.2 + 12.0 = 25.2
25.2 ÷ 7 = 3.6
3.6 is your maximum possible GPA by the end of the 1st semester Senior year, when you apply. Good luck to you
@ariamontgomery2 You specifically mention taking AP and honors courses. Does this imply that your 3.3 is weighted GPA? @T26E4 's calculation is for unweighted. Schools handle weighting in very different ways so we couldn’t tell you that without a lot more detail.
Colleges tend to use unweighted GPA so that’s probably what you should focus on in any case.
I worry that students today don’t know how to do algebra…
If you can’t figure this out on your own, chances are you won’t be getting straight A’s.
