Hi, I’m currently a junior in one honors class, one AP, and the rest are average. However, I’m a little nervous since I realized that my GPA was fine in freshman year with a 3.5, but then I began slacking off in Sophomore and dropped to a weighted 2.9. I was wondering what’s the highest GPA I could achieve at this point? I feel pretty hopeless but I want to get better this beginning of junior year and attend a decent college. Any advice as well to help me achieve better grades?
Do you know how to calculate a GPA? If so, do it with your final grades from freshman and sophomore year, and assume you’ll get straight A’s junior and senior year in the classes you’re in and are planning to take. That will give you the maximum possible GPA you could get at this point. If you don’t know how to calculate GPA, it’s really easy and I’d just Google it.
Assuming that you are talking about your unweighted GPA, the highest GPA you could have by the end of high school would be a 3.6 (if you got straight A’s).
The highest GPA possible by the middle of senior year would be a 3.54.
If you are talking about weighted GPA, this depends on your school and you need to find out the weighting system of your county (you can ask your guidance counselor).
^Not accurate. If the 2.9 at end of sophomore year is unweighted, then the highest possible unweighted GPA at end of junior year if same number of classes all three years and 4.0 junior year is 3.267. Senior year grades won’t factor in for most colleges’ admissions consideration.
