can someone give me a quick idea of my chances at an ivy league school?

i have a very low 3.34 GPA (used to be a slacker) but my SATs are at:

Verbal = 700
Math = 780
Writing = 790

Subject Tests:
Biology = 750
Math Ic = 730
US History = 580
Literature = 610
Math IIc = 700

I was regional Voice of Democracy Essay First Place and President of Debate Club. Varsity Basketball.
But that's pretty much for extracurriculars.

But, due to my extremely low GPA, I rank in the top 30%.

I will have taken 8 AP classes at the end of my senior year.

Any opinions on my chances? Does anyone know of any other people who have gotten in and their statistics??

You sound like a really smart slacker...colleges HATE that; butm if there is an upward trend in your GPA, that could help some. Whatever you do, don't limit yourself to "ivy league schools"...those are people that end up miserable later.

i got a bunch of Bs and C+'s in my freshman year but I started getting a lot of A's later on in high school.

But overall, by academic record is not very impressive:

Freshman Year:
2 B+'s in Geometry Honors.
2 C+'s in Bio.
1 C+ and 1 B in World History Honors
2 B+'s in English Honors.

Later on, most of my classes were A's with a few B's but mostly A's.

I know a lot of top colleges stress high school academic performance as a very high deciding factor so is my record too low for them to consider? In other words, will I be rejected over someone with lower SATs but higher GPA? Or are most top colleges more open than to just the HS report card?

GPA/class rank is the #1 most accurate way to predict success in college, and colleges therefore use that as the most important factor in admissions. They will take GPA > SAT, but it's all relative.

That's kind of strange. I had like a 3.33 freshmen year i think 3 Bs and one C and 2 As. however, my GPA by junior year was 3.715 UW. Just curious, but freshmen grades don't really matter. As long u demostrate sth. My GPA rose from 3.33 to 3.92 sophomore year and 3.93 junior year. I'm not too worried since i sort of proved myself capable of working the load. I'm sure u proved it but the class rank thingy does suck

I just want to dispel one myth here - class rank/GPA is not the most effective predictor of college performance. SAT I and SAT II scores combined are almost always more effective.

This is a fact sheet put out by FairTest, an anti-standardized testing organization... and the statistics they cite still show that scores are altogether more effective. Interesting.
