As it comes close to finals time, it looks like I'll have a 3.4 GPA for this semester. Not what I was aiming for by any means, but whatever.

This was a tough semester for a variety of reasons, and I'll definitely do better in the future. I'm concerned because I want to go into the finance, and the GPA requirements for that are very high.

So just give me some perspective, because I don't have any. How's my situation?

Don’t sweat the small stuff - a 3.4 is solid for your first semester. I think most people’s first semester (mind included) is usually among the worst in college because you have to adjust to a new college, a new environment, harder academics, etc.

Plus, the best part is that you have seven full semesters to raise it up, so you’re perfectly fine. Just make sure you develop proper study strategies and work hard to ensure success!

I guess I’m the exception because I did the best my first semester and it’s been downhill ever since. But I had easy classes my first semester so that’s probably why.

I think a 3.4 is alright in my opinion. I have a 3.7 right now freshman year, but I believe my 2nd-sem grades might drop slightly as I’m doing spring rush for a fraternity. Don’t get gloom about a 3.4, you still got the chance to get it up, after all it’s only your first semester.
