3.6 at UW or 3.9 at Gonzaga / TCU?

UW is a school with really hard classes and a rigorous quarter system. I feel like I wouldn't do as well there because of the large class sizes- probably get a 3.6 GPA overall (business and general education requirements). I love business and would get probably a 3.8/3.9 GPA in business classes at UW. If I were to go to TCU or Gonzaga (schools that may get less respect from MBA programs) and get a 3.9 GPA overall would that look better or worse than UW w/ a 3.6?

I am trying to decide where to go to school (I am a high school senior). Of course this is only one small factor I am using to decide, but I was wondering what people thought about this. I want to go to a really prestigious / respected graduate school.

I would not give much weight to your predictions of your own GPA, though low expectations certainly have potential to become self-fulfilling.

That said, what will matter more for b-school admissions than undergraduate prestige/GPA will be the quality of employment in the 3-5 years between graduation and b-school application plus your GMAT score.

If you’re a WA resident, unless your family is able and willing to cover the considerable extra cost of attending a private school without increasing your post-grad debt burden, you couldn’t choose one of these two privates over UW and have as much business sense as you claim.

I agree with DrExPat that your post-graduate experience and GMATs are more important than undergraduate institution prestige, but know that it’s possible that Gonzaga can cost less than UW with aid; I also understand that GU has a great alumni network to aid in job-hunting. So maybe Rayray20 has thought it out a little more than we know.

Yeah, Gonzaga is often less expensive than UW because of the financial aid. Also, it is a widely respected school, even though it is nowhere near as good as UW.

If you want to go to a small school in WA State, why didn’t you apply to Whitman?

I got scholarships from tcu and gonzaga, so money isn’t a factor.

Well, also consider the alumni network. Which of the schools do you think would get you the best job out of UG so that you could get the better shot to get into the better MBA?

I can’t know the answer to these questions, but it’s another thing to think about. Would a 3.6 GPA from UW and a solid job at Amazon, Microsoft or similar look better than a 3.9 from Gonzaga with a still solid job at a lesser known corporation?

(I know basically nothing about TCU, so I’m going to leave that alone)
