3.67 GPA: How bad is it?

I’m a sophomore and my GPA is a 3.67 weighted and 3.52 unweighted for semester 1. If I work hard and get all As the next semester and junior year how badly will this affect my chances into getting into a good university, like a UC?

We are east coast folks so haven’t looked that closely at UCs. However, my understanding is that at least most of the UCs don’t consider your freshman year grades (the same is true of schools in Canada, which we actually know more about).

As such, from the UC standpoint you have barely begun your high school career. The next year and a half will matter. Work hard, keep ahead in your classes, always pay attention in class, do your homework as close as possible to when it is assigned, and you should be fine.

UC’s only use 10-11th grades in their GPA calculation but all grades 9-11th are considered for the a-g course requirements. It is too early to say how you will fare in regards to the UC’s since you will need all your 10-11th grades to calculate your UC GPA (capped weighted and fully weighted). 6 pf the 9 campuses have an average UC GPA capped weighted of 4.0 so you need to get get more A’s than B’s in the next few semesters. You will also get honors points for UC approved Honors, AP, IB or DE courses taken 10-11th grade. Here is the UC GPA calculator to help you:

Continue working hard, take a rigorous HS schedule, do SAT/ACT test prep and get involved in some EC’s. Come back the summer of Junior year and repost.
Best of luck.
