Yes or No?

Yes 10char

Definitely. If you have strong recs, extracurriculars and essays.

Yes. I got in ED as a middle class white female non-URM, non-legacy with a 2250 and 12th in a class of 285.

Edit: unless you count queer as an URM, but at Columbia I honestly don’t (although I did play the gay card in my essay).

Nonsensical,

First, congrats! What an accomplishment!

Did you have especially strong ECs? I’ve heard of too many with almost perfect SAT scores , amazing GPAs, and top rankings who did not get in (also ED).

Also, it seems that applicants’ location also plays a role, with the tri-state area applicants facing the worst competition when applying to Columbia.

I don’t want to end up hijacking this post, since I was just was commenting to mention that it was definitely possible, but my ECs were pretty decent, I suppose.

The more major ones:
-Chosen by a non-profit writing organization as 1 of 2 out of 1000 students to co-write a children’s book that was professionally illustrated that they published
-Consistently placing statewide for debate/captain and such
-Paid book-marketing internship (also helped run a program that hosts Middle Eastern college students through a U. with academic programming)
-Political internship/political volunteering
-Various other leadership positions (President of GSA, VP of NHS) and other activities/volunteering/work/etc.
-Took several classes at my local college in my areas of interest

Other stuff: I was pretty happy with my essay, had an odd but good interview, and I’m from a New England state that’s generally underrepresented at Columbia.
