3 Academic Teacher Recommendations?

Hey everyone, rising senior here. I’ll be applying to very selective schools this fall (of course along with matches and safeties). I already asked two teachers (Physics and English) who I felt could write me strong recommendations at the end of the school year, and both agreed.

However, my Spanish teacher is someone who has experience with top tier schools (alum of NYU and Vandy), and around the end of the school year, he encouraged students in our Spanish class to apply to top tier schools. He said he would be willing to write a recommendation for anyone who wanted one from him. He knows me pretty well as I was pretty outspoken in his class and talked to him about non-academic things, and he thought I was the best non-native Spanish speaker he had.

Would it help to have his recommendation as well? Could it hurt me at all?

I’d stick with the two. If you do get a third recommendation it should be from someone who knows you outside of school (ex. a coach, clergy, boss etc.) Admissions officers have plenty to read without getting one more letter saying basically the same thing and where your recommender went to school is of zero importance.

Only ask him if any of your schools request a third. Otherwise, skip it. The above poster is correct; AdComms have enough to read as it is.
