3 Points Lower on PR Practice Exam!!

So I took the ACT my first time in April, and I scored a 31 (33E, 29M, 34R, 27S).
I was very sick when i took the test, and hadn't prepared at all save for a mock ACT that i took at my school. So i figured that if I was in good health, and with a little bit of preparation in the Princton Review book, I would be able to bump my score up to a 32-34!
I'm taking the test on September 12th and I've been doing some light reviewing of my weaker subjects in the PR book, and I just took the first PR practice test.
I was totally shocked by my results : A 28 Composite (31E, 29M, 27R, 26S)
My question is: should i be concerned about these numbers? Is it even possible that the book is making me worse at these questions?

Also: if i do worse on this ACT, and still send it to colleges, will the only see the 1st one? Or will they see that my score declined?

Thanks!!

That’s weird because I boosted my score 2 (38 to a 30) points with PR 1296. But I am told that PR is slightly harder than the real thing, but not by much like Barron’s is.

I have a similar issue… I took got a 31 on the actual ACT and today did a practice and got a 28 just like you! On the actual ACT I scored 35E, 31M, 29R, 28S.and today I got a 30E, 28M, 27R, 26S. I used an 2003 edition SAT/ACT iQuest prep book from leapfrog and I am hoping that my scores weren’t accurate predictions because the book is 6 years old… but I’m worried too! I wonder if the summer fried my brain, ha.

Hopefully someone will have some tips/insight for you and I both.

I agree that PR is more difficult, especially when it comes to Science, which is already nasty to begin with.

I hope PR is harder. I’m prepping for the first time and am not so happy.

I’m hopeful that science is harder, lol.

First PR Practice:

1) 35E
2) 33M
3) 36R
4) 23S

haha yeahh i did pretty bad on their science sections. so hopefully it is harder!

PR is comparable to the real thing so =/

The science section of PR, specifically, is definitely harder than the real ACT, but still similar. What I mean is, you will probably score higher on the real thing but not by much.

Yeah, if I had been in a quiet, concentration-friendly environment like where I am testing I would be more worried. But I was sitting at my crappy, small desk with my dog barking and my parents watching football downstairs. Which probably explains my drop of 7 points on the reading section, which requires the most attention!

It’s crazy how much environment fits into your score. Which is why i am taking this test in the exact same building as I took my last, it was SO comfortable.

It really does. I couldn’t concentration one day and I got a 25 on my reading practice section, compared to the 32-33 that I usually get when I can concentrate. But it funny, after that experience I’ve had trouble finishing the section.

Too be honest, I found the PRs easier. I scored 30 on the English in PR and got like 25 on the Red Book =/

Mee too.
i think Red book’s really hard.
and PR has some mistakes in math, also, which brought down my grade significantly.

When test day comes, you are in the zone and will perform much better. Also, the practice tests are slightly but significantly harder than the real test. Out of all of the standardized tests that I’ve taken, I’ve always scored higher than I have on any of the practice tests.

A similar thing is happening to me. My practice test scores went: 31, 30, 30, 29, 26, 32, 30, 30, 28. But my scores have always fluctuated on all of my practice tests (U.S. History subject test: all scores less than 710 but got a 760 on the real test)

So it’s alright.

The only thing comparable to the real thing is…gasp the real thing.
