Students definitely do go home for fall break, but many stay on campus too, becuase it's only one day off and if you live far away, it's not really worth it...if you're from one of the coasts, it's probably easier and cheaper to just stay. I have friends who used the break to visit people at other colleges in the Midwest instead of going home.

When I moved in, I brought 2 rolls with me because I had no idea how easy it would be to get quarters. It wasn't really necessary, but it's one less thing to worry about the first couple weeks. There are change machines around the 40 (in Wohl, in some of the dorms-not all, etc), but it always seemed the most convenient ones were out of quarters when I needed them. The Bank of America on campus will give you rolls of quarters too... so as long as you don't run out in the middle of doing laundry, you should be able to get some. And there are always the kind floor-mates for when you're short a couple :)

As to question 2, if you are out of quarters and in dire need, you can always walk over to one of the new dorms like Danforth/Lien and use your credit card in the laundry rooms there...they have a lot more machines than the old dorms, too.
